Anyone get a rash from Mepron? My son ( age 25) has been on Mepron for about 1 month. Yesterday he started with severe itching and a red rash. It is on his neck area, back, head and he said groin area. I called the pharmacist and she said 30% of patients have to come off Mepron due to the rash. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

My son didn't tolerate mepron very well either. You could use malarone in it's place, or artemisinin and plaquenil is effective as well.

A rash with Mepron is very common. I had rashes both times I started mepron, sometimes a week or 2 into the treatment. Mine were on my scalp, back, neck, chest and upper thighs. I asked my LLMD and he said its the actual Mepron, not a herx or allergic reaction. One of the listed side effects of Mepron is a rash, and its quite common. Mine went away in a few days and I continued the Mepron with no problems. I wouldn't stop taking it just because you get a rash. Ask your LLMD, but if you keep going it usually goes away. If it gets worse, esp. the itching and he gets anything else like tickle in the troat, or hard to breath, then I would suspect allergy, but they usually dont happen this far into treatment. Give it a few days and keep taking it..it should go away on its own. Hope it does! Good luck!

I had an itching rash too...didn't leave marks was just intensely itchy.
My LLMD wasn't concerned, just said to use Benadryl lotion to calm it down. I couldn't get that here so didn't even use it & went away and hasn't come back.

Thank you!! The Benadryl helped take care of it for a few hours. The itch drives him crazy. Hopefully this will pass soon.
