Last week I saw a Dr. who specializes in Lyme. She made the diagnosis and prescribed me an antibiotic (doxy).

I held off on taking it as I had family coming to town for the holiday and wanted to be able to have some beers, etc. During the week I got two huge bruises for no apparent reason. I now woke up this morning with a third. However, I started taking the Doxy last night, and was not sure if the third bruise was from that (it said that could be a side affect).

Anyone know if Bruising for no apparent reason is related to Lyme?

I have had just about all the symptoms of Lyme at one time or another...

Bruising was not one of them.....

Don't know of anyone else complaining of that either.....

Could be something else.......suggest you get it checked out asap.....zman

The pathogens...all of them...are parasites. They take from us specific nutrients.

All the nutrients work TOGETHER. That's what makes this so tough. If even one nutrient is thrown off it impacts others.

Many of your nutrients are taking a "hit".

Bruising is associated primarily (but not exclusively) with vitamin C levels dropping.

Doxycycline depletes:
Vit B1, Vit B2, Vit B3, Vit B6, Vit B12, Vit K, Iron, Magnesium, Biotin, Calcium, Inositol, and the beneficial bacteria: Bifido bifidum (bifidus), lactobacillus acidophilus.

http://medicinegarden.com/Library/pharmadrugsdepletions.html

There are, in lyme disease, waaaaaaaaay too many damaging free radicals. The "antioxidants" are being utilized to combat this. Vitamin A and E take a big hit especially in lyme disease. This is documented in pubmed. Vitamin C is a water soluable vitamin, meaning it is not stored like A, E, and D are. It only "hangs around" for about 2 hours.

Even aspirin and acetaminophen (et al) deplete nutrients too if taken in excess for too long.

The OTC (over the counter) things are not without risks and are powerful.

It is NOT a good idea to drink alcohol when you have lyme disease for many reasons.

If you ever go on Flagyl to knock out the cyst form of Bb...alcohol is absolutely out or you WILL end up in the ER...guaranteed! They do NOT "mix".

When on antibiotics it is absolutely critical that you take probiotics one hour before meals with a full glass of water.

The antibiotics destroy the beneficial bacteria as well as the harmful bacteria. The beneficial bacteria in your gut help you to absorb nutrients and actually MAKE many vitamins for you. When their numbers decrease = yeast infections. Then another Rx...

It is imperative that you maintain a healthy gut.

I had several bruises that cleared as soon as I started treatment for babesia. They came back not as bad when I was switched from ceftin/zith/mepron over to ketek/mepron but lasted only a few days before clearing again.

I tested positive for babs the first time I was tested through Igenex but my LLMD would have treated me anyway. I showed up in her office in the middle of the summer in a turtleneck and sweatshirt. I had the heater on in my car and was comfortably cooking at 90.

Edited to add: That the posts above shouldn't be discounted. Bruising could be from several causes.
