My PA prescribed Tindamax (tinidazole) for me to try. She said it would work well with doxy. For background, I have Lyme, Bartonella, and, it appears, Babesia.

I was taking Cipro for Bart until I got tendonitis. I am terribly allergic to Rifampin. I was taking Zithromax for a one-two punch with Lyme AND Bart, but it was too much for me to bear (off Malarone for Babs because of mood issue right now, too).

I take Plaquenil for cyst-busting.

I wish I'd thought to ask: is the tini for cyst busting? Lyme? Bart? Any combo of these?

I'm allergic to Flagyl, so I may not be able to tolerate this anyway. (I should get it tomorrow.)

I'm really worried about accidentally ingesting alcohol what with the Antabuse-type effects.

How long did you take this? I'm supposed to take it 3X a day, and I'll have to take it with doxy, I think. I hope it's not going to be Barf Fest. Either that, or I have to find some way to get up earlier, and I'd have to take it with Plaquenil. Don't know if that's so great, either.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Steph

My LL Dr prescribed oral tinidazole 2g a day for five days by itself w/o other drugs. Tucson pharmacies sell Tindamax for ~2x compounding pharmacy charges for tinidazole.

Tinidazole and Metronidazole (flagyl)counter Bb cysts. I thought Plaquenil elevated pH to help other drugs work better.

Wow. I think I was given a month's prescription! I don't know for sure because I dropped it off, and it's being ordered.

Yeah, I have heard it's good for cysts, but I was told I'm taking Plaquenil both to help the drugs work better and for cyst busting. I'm not really sure why I'll be taking the Tindamax. This was my first visit with this PA, and we were discussing so many other things. I may want to leave a message, inquiring about this. She said it works well with doxy. That much I know.

Thanks, Neil.

Although tinidzole (sp?) is used for csyt busting it is also known to take care of co-infections-it's very similar to flagyl with a lot less neuroproblem. Most people that can't handle flagyl for whatever reason are switched to tinidzole-I have also heard that the herx is not nearly as bad on tini but it's different for everyone.

good luck

Thanks, Lindsay. That clears up some confusion! Maybe it will address the Bart.

I have heard good things about it with respect to it being easier to handle than Flagyl. Hopefully, I'm not allergic to it, too!

I have to start slowly, with one pill per day. Ultimately, I am supposed to take six per day. I can't pick it up until tonight, so I guess I'll start tomorrow morning.

I don't think Tindamax has any known action against Bartonella, though some docs are using it in combos for Babesia, as well as for the cyst form of Lyme.

It is supposed to be easier to tolerate than Flagyl, though I only took Tini, so I can't say. The only problem with it I had was severe depression. I handled that by pulsing the Tinidazole, 5 days or so on, 3-4 off.

Good luck wiith it. [Smile]

Hmm, Riversinger. I don't know why it was prescribed, but I appear to have Babesia, too, so, in any event, it should help! I'm taking the Plaquenil for the cyst form of Lyme. I guess this will add a boost.

Depression concerns me. I have a mood disorder, and my serotonin is really messed up right now due to an issue with medication. I remember the PA saying something about taking it on and off. I have to leave a message for her. I think I'll call tomorrow.

Hi Starphoenix [hi]
I have been taking doxy septra ,plaquenil and tini for a while now.

I pulse in the tini. The flagel stopped working for me.The combo of doxy and tini is really hard on my stomach. I think it is a good combo for me because I am beginning to have more good days.

But I have to be really careful to eat alot and then drink alot of water after I take each dose. And I try not to lay down for a while after.I also found prilosec in the am works well for me .

But just want to say that the tini can make me emotional. I know this now and try to prepare myself.I am usually a positive person.

Everyone's so different and their recation to meds are so different.I just wanted to let you know this happens to me and if this happens to you know this is just a temporary situation.

Take care

Dana: Thank you for sharing your experiences! I'm afraid to take it with the doxy. I am considering taking it with snacks and lunch, apart from doxy, but within a few hours. I take Aciphex in the morning.

I appreciate the comfort about how any suffering is temporary.

I hope I don't have an asthma attack. I am allergic to Flagyl, and I got a heads-up warning from the pharmacy. If I am, it's back to Zithromax. That's okay, though.
