I would like to poll all you Lyme experts here.
If you had severe allergies to all the ABX that work against Lyme, would you be willing to take steroids along with the ABX you are allergic to, so that you could tolerate them? This would be for an absolute minimum of 18 months, and probably for several years or even for life.
I have been told by an "expert" that I must do this,or risk death from the inadequacy of my alternative approach.
I do know I could die from Lyme, and I've been told when first dx'd that my brain/heart damage is significant enough to cause that to happen at any time, but I feel steroids are a certain death....I would feel a lot better during the process though.... I once had a huge dose of injected steroids, and all symptoms disappeared for 3 weeks.
What do you all think?

I had taken prednisone for months for RA. I was recently dx'd with chronic Lyme in Aug. I was told by the MD that this was a hinderence on my well being and to stop it immediately. I did read up on it and had to do with the cells, autoimmunity if the body already cannot support the immune system, in which mine is shot. So, if you have a vitally strong immune system, I would go for it for relief. However, the drawbacks are thinning bones, moon face, etc. and the half-life of it totally getting rid of it inside the body could last up to one year I was told and could resurface worse symptoms for you.
Read up on the side effects and ask your MD about your bacteria type with LLMD.
I hope that helped some!!!
Take care,
Tammy [hi]

Dr B says that steroids can be taken if necessary, but only if one is on abx. I would be careful and take the minimal amount needed.

The big no no is taking steroids without abx to kill the lyme. This gives the keets free range without any interference.

Many on this board are taking low dose Cortef for weak adrenals, including me. Steroids in a physiological dose (what the body needs to function properly) can help the immune system. Steroids in a pharmacological dose are what do the damage. These are Rx'd more for pain relief.

You're only a failure when you stop trying.

I would absolutely not take steroids personally. I'd find an antibiotic that I was not allergic to.

No way....... My hubby is allergic to several meds, so has to be careful of what he takes. But there are a lot of antibiotics that can be used. After seeing how bad he got when the neuro put him on steroids, I would say No No No!

I cannot imagine that taking an anbibiotic that you are allergic too, along with steroids to control the antibiotic is a good thing.

Steroids were the worst thing my husband ever took. (told by a neuro that it wouldn't hurt to try)......

I wouldn't go for that at all! jmho. Might try the new silver that is doing good for a lot of people.
