Hi,

Just started saline drip for teen daughter thru picc for detox.

Have done this 4 or 5x with no incident recently.

Just now hooked up and she started with throat and chest burning.

At first I thought allergic and went for the benadryl.

Then I gave inhaler instead as it seemed like a chest/breating problem.

Also benedryl makes her tired for next day, so hate to give hastily.

She says it feels like lungs have been hit with cold air.

Has anyone had this happen with starting IV drip.

She went to christmas show and lunch with Grandma. She is so fatigued that she rarely gets out, especially in am.

Could being really exhausted lead to asthma attack?

What do you think?

Char

I don't know if she is having an asthma attack or not. When I had asthma in Europe and had no way to get medication for it. I drank a glass of hot water with a teaspoon of honey in it. The honey really calmed down the bronchi. An icepack on the chest for a few minutes helps some people too.
Usually with an asthma attack you get coughing and congestion and then wheezing.

This may help

My son had crup--
I would carry him into
cold night air quickly-
and he would be better
in seconds--

Also this worked-
I know it sounds crazy but-
The exhaust air that comes
out of a vacume cleaner
blown in face a minute or 2
also helped--
Dont know why tho-

Well, it passed. Murphy's law...if I try to get outside help, whatever is the matter goes away by the time I have figured out what to do.

I think it was just a mild asthma attack. Pain dissapated slowly over 10-15 minutes. She has exercise induced asthma, but has not had a problem occur out of nowhere.

I can understand the warm water helping, but not the vacuum cleaner! It's like we are all in this lyme zone of altered reality where the principles of matter are distinctly different than what the rest of the population is experience.

Thanks for responses!

Be very careful, as she may be having an allergic reaction to the IV.

Vaccuum cleaner exhaust?? [Eek!] !

Not sure where you live but every winter since LD I get asthma type symptoms when out in the cold.

Yesterday we went out to cut a Christmas tree and I was walking through the snow with snowshoes, so I was laboring a bit. The air was cold and my airway tightened up.

Wintertime brings different symptoms for me.

Lymetoo-

We are fortunately going to llmd on Monday. We won't infuse til then. Do you think she could be having an allergic reaction to something in this particular bag of saline solution?
Weird because she has been ok on this before.

One wierd thing about this lyme is that my sons asthma has been fine and we are normally battling it quite hard. The cool air does help to open up the airways and if your child has problems again it may be worth a try. [Big Grin]
