My Physical Therapist (whom I adore) asked me to see a neuro HOPING to tie up the Lyme Disease/ms controversy with a nice, little bow--I told her it can't be done...we'll always be the Hatfields & McCoys! [bonk]

Neuro said that (high school) optical neuritis was ms & used the usual SCARE TACTICS & handed me a bag & literature on Rebif. CT Doc TOTALLY DISAGREES.

I'm taking Diflucan & Mino. which have decreased my stiffness & muscle spasms by about 75% The neuro prescribed Valium, but I'm holding off.

Any experience (good OR bad) with Valium?
Thanx in Advance~~Reno

I've not taken valium, but I've taken xanax a few times. They both are for anxiety. It's not going to do much for muscle spasms. At least that's my experience and that's sure not what it's for. I wonder why he didn't give you muscle relaxants.

Valium, aside from being anti-anxiety med is also a very good muscle relaxer.

I have been given it for that reason in the past. It's not a problem for me, except if I were to take it at bedtime(leaves me groggy in the morning).

If you're uncomfortable with it you could possibly try Valerian root. That's the natural alternative they got the idea from valium from. It's more subtle and properly balanced so it doesn't have any untoward side effects. Well, except for smelling like dirty socks. Ugh! It does work though but it's subtler. You could check with your doc and see if this is ok.

Sorry I didn't explain that as well as I'd hoped. [Frown]
Needless to say I'm neither a pharmacist or a doctor. [Wink]

I can only speak from my experience. It is very addictive. I became very addicted to it. I id not abbuse it. The withdrawels are hell. A recovering heroin addict told me valium is worse to get off than heroin. There are lots of herbal product you could try. How long do they want to keep you on it. Afew days may be fine, but I would not chance it. It was a nightmare for me. Take care J Accupuncture may help also. Blessings

With Diflucan you are killing yeast. Yeast hold on to heavy metals in their cell wall. So when you have a die-off from the Diflucan, you must also have a "catcher" in the body in form of Chlorella or similar agents that hang on to the other stuff coming loose and thus moving it out of the body.

If you do not have these (Chlorella and others) in you when you are on Diflucan as well as any killer meds (any abx), you are going to feel worse for other reasons than just the die-off alone. The metals recirculate and resettle elsewhere in the body and it becomes a merry-go-round that just will never end. Believe me and take some of that stuff. Dr. K. constantly reminds his patients to do that if they are on anything that kills. Heavy metals are in many places we do not suspect them. And many of the continuing problems that people have stems from that. Not just the dead bacteria, etc.

Take care.

P.S. Reno, you might want to check your magnesium intake. Or your total electrolyte intake. Lacking any of these can give you plenty of muscle problems. The Mag and Electrolytes should be taken throughout the day in smaller doses, then your medicines also will reach the places they should be going.

I love Valium. It is not addicting for me and it has gotten me through 3 surgeries and MANY herxes!

I find it is soooooooooooooo soooooooooooooo much better than any pain reliever and does NOT cause constipation.
[woohoo]
When I am having a hard time with my lyme symptoms I will take a little 2mg pill at bed time and I feel great in the morning. I find that only occassionally (like 4 times in the past 5 years) have I needed it for more than a day or two unless I am recovering from surgery.

It is not just anti-anxiety but is a muscle relaxer. My first prescription was for when I had to have colon surgery b/c of endometriosis. The surgeon (who I ADORE)prescribed the valium for involuntary muscle cramping and spasms in my abdomen. It worked.

It is much safer than xanax and also less addictive. Look them up in the PDR--Valium is an older and safer drug.

It would be best to find the root of your problem, but sometimes we CAN NOT find one. I have NEVER found the root of my muscle pain and spasms or twitching. (I have had DIAGNOSED Lyme and TBD's since 1991) I just think the lyme and co's cause these things to happen to some of us.

What dosage is the script?

YOu can cut them in half. Start with 2 mg and work up to what works for you. Dont take them more than 5 days in a row or you may find addiction problems.

Much luck,
Trails -

Valium works the best for me when I get a muscle spasm.

I have never taken more than 5mg & usually can get away with 1/2 tab.I only weigh 98Lbs.

I don't like to take very often as it is addictive & can cause depression on long term use.

But on occation valium works better for me than flexeral or any other "muscle relaxers"
