I had my pic line put in yesderday. While the doc was putting it in and was reaching the end my heart made a big jump and I alsmost jumped off the table. The doc said, "you could feel that" yes I said. Well, he had never had that happen befor. LOL
I have been having the same palipatation since. Last night about 50 of them. They kind of make me yelp if I am talking to someone while they occure.LOL I have had palips befor with the Lyme, like maybe 1 or 2 every week or so, they were in the same spott as where the doc somehow aggrivated. Anyone else have had this kind of thing??? If it weren't for the pic line being in causing this, I would be scared ...less. They really make me jump.

It is possible the doc thought you meant you could feel the insertion itself and didn't realize you meant you experienced a heart palpitation.
You may need to have it adjusted as the tip of the catheter may be advanced a tiny bit too far.
I wouldn't let it go. Call ASAP

When your picc was placed, was the position verified by x-ray or some other kind of machine? The doctor who placed mine was watching the whole time on some sort of monitor that visualized the veins and heart. He showed me. It was kinda cool.

Thanks everyone - I spoke with someone else who had the sam experience - They had the line backed out a couple of CM and it stopped. I called the tech and they said to come in if it keeps up.LOL Another trip to the hosp or I could pull it out myself????

Happened to me 3 months ago when i had mine put in,I told the doc and he backed it out a bit.If I push my shoulder into my chest it can sometimes get uncomfortable,I think the tube is getting closer to my heart in that position.It was a scary feeling haveing that happen at the insertion.

Since the line is so new...
I'd ask the nurse, that should be there today to do the dressing change, to back it out a little.
If not maybe a trip back, sorry.
It's very difficult to do a dressing change one-handed without any practice and there's a danger of accidentally pulling the whole thing out. Sure don't want to do that.
I hope it's straightened out and they stop soon. *searches for fingers-crossed smilie, finds nothing and writes this here*

My daughter felt the picc go in. It hurt a lot.
This was strange as she had had one inserted 6mos previously without pain, other than at the insertion site.
She goes thru periods of extreme sensory sensitivity and I think that that was the problem.
I have the opposite problem with my lyme. I am sort of numb and clumsy, so I at times bump into her...I can't even feel that I did it and to her it really hurts.
She was trouble for about a wk after the insertion with feeling the line all the way up. I was getting convinced it was going to have to be pulled and it calmed down.
Could part of the heart problem be a herx?
She had some weird heart feelings this wk that subsided with abx break. So I think it is a herx.
This is all not to take away from advice to get this checked out. Sounds like a good idea.
