Hi, I took Riamet in December for a possible babesia and got better concerning night sweats.

Then I decided to take high doses artemisinin (900mg/day) for 3 days (it kills malaria well at this dose or higher). Just to be sure I kill the babesia if they were still there.

First day I took artemisinin, I herxed a lot.
I got very nervous, wanting to hit anyone that passed in front of me (?!), then after second day, came the arthrtitic herxes together ... And my 6 month pain in the left knee is gone today(?!!!). I have 'weakeness' in the left knee though, but the pain is GONE!

I'm still having CNS herxes (can't sleep well due to nervousness) but that gets better after I do jogging for about 20-30 minutes and take Chitosan. And still having arthritic pains here and there (where I never had arthritis before).

I wanted to stop taking higher doses artemisinin after the 3rd day, but now I'm on the 5th day, I lowered the dose to 600mg today. I wonder if anyone got same experience with artemisinin. I know a few drs. recommend to pulse artemisinin while others don't.

I know it's supposed to kill babesiosis, but that it has also shown to kill leptospirosis bacteria and lyme bacteria in vitro. As it easily crosses the brain barrier (according to Buhner), that's why I may be getting CNS herxes with that(?).

Funny that my only basic symptom of lyme was artritis... But in fact, I may have had also neuroborreliose without symptom.

Just wanting to know if others had similar experiences with artemisinin (high doses).

Selma

I've taken it at higher doses than that with few bad effects, but different people can react very differently to the same thing.

Some have found it to work very well against Lyme if taken with a penicillin of some sort. That combo should be started slowly in my opinion as it can have a very strong effect at first. With one's doctor's guidance too, of course.

James: Selma says she is taking 900 mg of artemisinin/day, that's 3 times the usual dose, are you saying you took a higher dose than that?

We are talking "artemisinin" here not the herb "artemisia".

Nelly

PS: Selma, did you see my question to you on EuroLyme re buying Riamet with a GP's script and buying it from a chemist's in Switzerland?

Not saying this will happen to you, but need to remember that herbs can have side effects too. Also, I don't know how long the person in this case took art or what the dose was.
