Hi Guys - I have read so many differing opinions about the pill that it has confused me.

I have been on Loestrin now for 10 years.... I really dont have a big problem with it....lighter periods and less cramps..although my Lyme flares around my period week.

I have debated whether putting these hormones in my body is not the right thing to do and that my body should possibly be working " naturally"

My question is: Who here has been on the pill long term and decided to go off and how did it effect your Lyme? Worse? Better?

I really want to try and go off but feel like I am a prisoner now to the pill b.c of concern that my body has gotten TOO used to the hormones and will freak out and go into a tail spin.

Any advise???? Thanks!!

I took it for years. I'm not sure if I have lyme or not yet, don't see llmd until Feb.

Anyway, I went off of it because as I started getting older the pill gave me horrible insomnia.

If not for that, I would keep taking it. The OB/GYN said the pill can be taken right through menopause.

It keeps the hormones in balance. When off the pill there is much fluctuation in hormones throughout the month which makes PMS MUCH WORSE.

Also, hormones really go crazy as we get older (I'm 43)

Also cramping and heavy bleeding when off the pill.

I would still be on it if it weren't for insomnia.

IMO, if you're doing ok on it, I would continue.

Hi, I was on the pill for 15 years. I decided to go off of it because it does not work when you are on antibiotics anyway so I figgured why waste the money.

Plus my doctor wanted to put me on hormones and I figgured it is better to not put extra stuff in my system if it is not needed.

I have endometriosis but it is not that bad. I noticed after I stopped my pill I had heavier periods and I get ovarian cysts more often.

Other than that, as far as my lyme symtems go it hasn't affected it.

If you want to go off of it than I would. Like I said it doesn't provide any protection for birth control anyway since you are on antibiotics.

Thanks guys! Believe: Did you have a hard time in the beginnning with your body readjusting? Such as Lyme flares?

I agree it does nill for Birth control..especially with all the abx I am on!! LOL

Being on birth control seems to help lessen my Lyme flare-ups. I'm 29 and would want some form of contraception anyway, but it's nice to have the added benefit of less Lyme flare-ups, less PMS, and fewer migraines. I use nuvaring, which I was told uses lower hormone levels than the pill.

No I do not remember having a hard time readjusting. I just have heavier periods that I don;t like. Other than that its fine.
