My son was on mepron/ceftin/zith for 3 months & this month he has been having muscle pain in the arms and legs (that moves around.)

His llmd put him instead on just ceftin /doxi for this month and said the myalgias could be erhlichia related.

I thought I read myalgias could be symptoms of babs.

His primary symptoms were extreme fatigue - insomnia - weight loss (no appetite) - eye twitching and brain fog. The only symptom that is gone (treated since 8/20) is the brain fog.

You may not get many answers today being Sunday.
This board becomes pretty inactive on weekends.

Hope the link below helps, I can do many searchs here and come up with myalgia as a symptom of babesia....so you are right in this.

I'm at a loss as to why he eliminated the mepron/zith treatment. You might want to bring this up to him and find out what his reasoning is.
Hope he feels better soon.

Thanks Meg & Groovy

I should have pressed more - since I thought/think this is herxing. I did speak up and say that I have read that going off mepron too soon can cause ineffectiveness of mepron the next go-around. Our llmd response was.... not so.

I hope this is not going to set him back.

Friday was a hard day - my hubby and third son had bloodwork done and their first appointments. Seems like all 5 of us have lyme/co.

My experience is that the mepron/zith herxes bring on pain.

Also, over exercising or over stretching will make me hurt on this combo. So I'm being very careful not to overdo.

While I don't like taking aspirin, this is what helps during the pain of a herx.

I just saw your post. . . I spent 5 months on mepron/ketek or mepron/ceftin/zith and my muscles hurt so bad when I saw my llmd on friday.

She took me off the mepron and put me on doxy for ehrlicia. Within a day the muscle pain had subsided, within 3 days the muscle pain was gone.

Now I have a multitude of bartonella symptoms that have presented themselves. . .

I tested positive for ehrlicia mono & gran. I wasn't treated with doxy originally because I was headed to FL on vacation. When I returned, I started treatment for babesia.

elle

Was muscle pain a symptom or did it just surface while on the mepron protocol?

I started treatment for babs last week and the muscles in my leggs where killing me.

I know this has to be from the treatmnet because that's not usual for me to have such bad muscles pains in my leggs.

That's a good question by valymemom : did your som have muscle pain before treatment?

And if he did,did he have worse with treatment?

Symptom flares can get much worse while herxing.
What I did last week was warm epsom baths ,which gave only temporary relief.

I also used a gentle vibrator on my leggs, which did the most good in relieveing the muscle pains in my leggs.

Take care

I hate this disease/overlapping diseases!

My son did not have muscle pains at all until this third month on mepron. That's why I am thinking it arrived with herxing but his doctor took him off mepron and put him on doxi to cover ehrlichia.

It's never clear-cut.......what's what.
