My LLMD did a CD57 test and mine was 51 . The normal range is betweenl 60-360. Does anyone know what this test means. I haven't had my follow-up with him yet and wondered what this number is indicating?
Thank you in advance!

Early on they really believed the CD57 would be a great treatment marker to gauge the process of improvement. The sad truth is the CD57 numbers don't mean too much.

It depends on who you talk with. Several leading doctors still use the CD57 and I would disagree with the previous poster that it is no longer viewed as useful. Debated maybe, but several practitioners are still using it.
CD57 cells are a subset of immune cells that Lyme Disease is the only known condition to lower the #s. It also has been used as a predictor of relapse when ABX are stopped. If it is lower, risk of relapse is higher, etc.

I think it is useful when the regular testing for lyme comes out negative...If the CD57 is low that is....Just more proof that you have lyme I would think...
My son's was 18 and now is 31 in a few short months of treatment....
But his LLMD said it doesnt mean that you are feeling at all better....He has had many patients with rising CD57 counts and still feel as crappy as before..

That is a good point about the CD-57 being evidence in case the WB is negative, which it sometimes is for people who have been sick for a long time.
Mine was 2 on my initial workup, and still just 11 a few months into treatment. Of course my WB was plenty positive, so that wasn't an issue.
The CD-57 means SOMETHING... we just aren't sure what that something is.

My last WB thorugh Igenex wasn't positive even though I had some positive bands. I've been sick over 14 years and this may explain why WB wasn't positive.
My LLMD appt is coming up and at least I'll ahve some back ground on this test.
