Are you confident that you will be purchasing your meds from a reputable pharmacist?
I have haerd that many meds sold south of the border are diluted or laced.

Also the fact that antibiotics are not only in higher demand in Mexico, there is dramatically less money to buy them with.
Eye opener: Flucanazole, US $14 Mex $1.40
I used to think all the motorhomes that went to Arizona went just for the heat. It's really the cheap dentists and meds along the border.

Meds in Mexico are usually of good quality when purchased from a major pharmacy chain such as Benavides. Really, high priced very popular meds are the only ones you have to worry about... as was stated, there is little incentive to counterfeit low cost antibiotics.
Whatever you do though, have nothing to do with any kind of narcotic, sedative, or possibly some antidepressants. The meds are probably fine, but they have very strict and unbending laws that can send you to a very bad prison for a long time. (Not the case with antibiotics, though.)
Also, avoid any kind of diet pills... those will get you in trouble on the US side.

I've been to Mexico, once. Upon reentry into the states they searched what appeared to be most bags.
When I was thinking about going to Mexico for Bicillin that was the biggest reason I didn't do it. I feared being arrested or having the abx confiscated. Was my fear unrealistic?

My dad winters in Arizona. He gets all his prescriptions in Mexico and has for years. He has never had any problems. He says that bus loads of people from his area get their medication's in Mexico without any problems.

I believe that it is legal for most medications (someone has noted the exceptions above) provided that one stays within certain limits. I don't know what those are. You might check with Customs. http://www.cbp.gov/

Here also is information from the FDA web site. It refers to importation of drugs unapproved by the FDA, but I think that the 3 month supply limit for personal use may apply to approved drugs as well. http://www.fda.gov/ora/import/pipinfo.htm
Anyone concerned could call either of these agencies, but experience by people who have done this seems to indicate that some level of importation is allowed, even if officially prohibited.

The basic rule is a 90 day supply for your PERSONAL use. That means they don't want people bringing it in in quantity and possibly reselling it.
You also cannot bring in meds that are illegal in the US. They used to be really fixated on certain diet pills, I'm not sure what their 'thing' might be now.
In general when re-entering the US be polite, respectful, and look them in the eye when they talk to you. Declare what you have and do not try to hide anything.
If you lie or try to hide a contraband item and they find it, they can fine you heavily, confiscate your car if they want, and/or put you in jail.
If you declare it, usually all they can do is take it away. ("The Truth Shall Set You Free".... a US Customs agent told me that once when I asked a question about what I was allowed to bring back. "...Unless it is a brick of cocaine", he added with a smile.)
It is kind of like boarding an airliner these days. There is a procedure to go through, but if you are polite and use good sense you will rarely have a problem.
Incidently there is a hot drug war going on in the part of Mexico where I would usually visit, with machine gun and bazooka fire being exchanged right downtown a little too frequently. So... I have not gone there for quite awhile. My aplogies if any of my observations have gotten stale.
