well, i finally did it...after years of suffering with my achey rc's and tens of oral surgeons saying the x-rays look fine, i had my 2 painful root canaled teeth removed.

the os also cleaned out the bone behind the extraction site where a wisdom tooth had been removed 25+ yrs ago.

of course he found tons of infection...both of the teeth were very infected as well as all of the surrounding bone.

i've known this for years but could not find any docs to do this work.

i'm hoping this work will be a first step in my healing process.

i've been on abx for the past year but they haven't really made much of a dent.

they couldn't get into all that infected bone.

i'm also working w/ a naturopath who is helping me to get my immune system back in balance.

hopefully b/t these 3 approaches, i'll start to see some much needed improvement.

take care, lisa

Lisa tell us more.....
so the x-ray looked OK????
How did you find someone to agree to remove them? What are you going to put in there place?
How did the surrounding gum look to you? was is slightly darker than the normal gum? Are you feeling any better yet?

Any more info would be helpful.
Thanks, Ernie

Lisa,

I have a root canal coming up next month and had my 4 wisdoms removed in November. What advice can you give me on both so I can be sure to steer clear of what you went through? Thanks!

Marc

Lisa, do you have a panarex? Is that how the os discovered that you had cavitaions at the site of your wisdom teeth.

hi:

i say no to root canals...all of mine hve failed...is it b/c of the lyme, i don't know.

i just know they continue to harbor infection and cause problems for a body with a weakened immune system.

when having wisdom teeth removed make sure os cleans extraction site well. scrapes the bone and removes the periodontal ligament.

the os who removed my teeth this week saw infection in one of the teeth (in the x-ray)..but also was listening to my complaints of constant pain in the area.

i also have seen dr K and dr. H both reviewed my panorexes and said my rc'd teeth were infected and that i had cavitations in the sites where wisdom teeth had been removed years ago.

you have to find an os who understands that your health is related to your teeth. one who listens to your symptoms and one who knows how to read a panorex.

dr. H in reno is probably one of the best in the country. i opted to use someone abit closer to my home...but he has the same understanding of oral health as dr. H and dr. K.

it's only been 2 days post op...too soon to tell if i feel better yet physically...but psychologically i am very glad to have that rotten stuff out of my mouth!!!!!

i also need to go back and have the other cavitation sites cleaned out. i am too ill to have too much surgery done at one time.

read gigi and wallace's posts about dental health and it's relationship to your overall health. they are right on.

if your old rc'd teeth hurt...there is something wrong!!! don't listen to dentists, docs, endodontists and os's who tell you otherwise.

i'll keep the board posted as my recovery progresses.

thanks to all.

Please tell me how your recovery is. I am getting 3 rc teeth out at the end of this month. Are you able to eat? Were they on the same side? Wish you the best with your healing.

Skimbiz, don't get root canals and make very certain that your wisdom teeth were not just pulled, but cleaned out all the way. It is a surgical intervention, you might say. Read my posts, especially the article I posted by Dr. H. If you don't get them cleaned out totally, you are going to be very sorry, even years from now.

Look at the dental chart and meridian relationship I posted a week ago.

Good luck.

ali:

i had 2 upper back molars pulled. i have been on a liquid/soft food diet since weds...not really a problem.

the site seems to be healing well. i have little to no pain in the area. which is amazing since it has always been one of my worst areas for pain.

i'm hopeful that removing this infection will play a key role in my recovery.

though i'm still scared, worried and depressed about how long this crud has been ravaging my body...SCARY stuff.

i really feel good about the os who did my surgery. he understands the critical role our teeth play in our overall health.

hope your os has the same understanding...this work really needs to be done right.

good luck, let us know how the surgery goes.

lisa
