sorry to ask such a basic question, but i have been looking at supplements for days now, and i can't figure out what really could help me. a lot of them are expensive and even lack much anecdotal support. a lot of them seem to have basis in theory... but as a veteran of psych meds, it seems like so much can have theoretical basis without actually really helping in practice.

i am really seriously looking at stuff that helps acetylcholine & magnesium... but the cost seems so prohibitive, the supplements are rare, and the doses are so high. [Frown] do they really provide any help in the immediate and significantly? that is what i really need.

cognitive paralysis, episodes of intense unprecipitated upset, and fatigue are my worst problems. (aside from carb cravings as well).

again, sorry for such a basic post, i am very lost... i was going to go by Dr. B's guidelines at first but the theory and the cost is so confusing.

See Dr. B's guidelines, pg 26, Supplements for Neurologic symptoms:

1) Acetyl-L-Carnitine 1500-2000/day on empty stomach Plus SAMe/400 mg /day.

2) Methyl B12 injections.

The Acetyl-L-Carnitine & SAMe combo has helped me alot and almost any supplement store has these. Even Costco has the SAMe.

Even though B12 tabs are not assmimulated very well, I still take them, letting them dissolve in my mouth. Better than nothing.

Try Horney Goat Weed. Good for fatigue and cognitive problems. Helped me anyway.

I would recommend adrenal support, vitamin B-12 and Mt Capra Goat Mineral Whey (concentrate powder that you add to hot water, tasty too).

complicated. will have to look at that. i am also mostly vegan. i just went to three downtown stores (this is ottawa, canada), only one had acetyl-L-carnitine 40$ for 500mg x60 and the brand was very obscure (the packaging was very low-quality as well).

i guess i will have to look at internet stuff again, now. [Frown]

Hi Daniel

I am from Canada also and use liquid L-Carnitine from Ultimate Nutrition. You have to get it under the table, but if you ask around at several vitamin stores you can probably find it.

Yes, it really works.
Methyl B12 injections work great, as does CordyMax from pharmanex, take them all together plus your antibiotics.

Does anyone know if L-carnitine & acetyl-L-Carintine are the same thing?

For Daneillb: Do they have walmarts in canada?
Because I find the acety-l-carnitine & same-e there at good prices too.

acetyl-l-carnitine is different i think. i was under the impression it is more effective in the brain this way.

there are canadian walmarts, but they are harder to get to, and i am currently not getting much done in days and exploiting my father to get everywhere. [Frown]

My LLMD swears by Rhodiola and I agree!

Taken on an empty stomach, it gives me energy and helps me to deal with stress without losing it.

I've been using it for a very long time and it's been tried and true.

Google it and you'll find a plethora of info on it.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

So where do you order if from?

Sounds like something my hubby needs. He's doing pretty good with the ABX, but he still has the stress type problems going on. His Dad is sick with cancer, and we go home to visit. And he's worse after that. I know the stress just makes his system worse.

And I've been so grouchy to him lately, I'm ashamed. I mean, I can tell him something three times, but he can't seem to process it. He tries, but it just doesn't compute.

Okay, I'll quite griping now.

I just wonder if he's truly getting better ??

4 1/2 months on ABX at this point.

Thanks for any thoughts.

People, the word is HERB.

Or should I say HERBS?

I was getting worse and worse on the abx. I quit them last Tuesday, as I couldn't stand it any longer.

I still felt rather rough last night, but today I am feeling much better, can think better, AND can see MUCH better again. ALL the things I was doing Before I started taking the abx two months ago, when I was on herbs ONLY.

NOW I am back on herbs ONLY, plus C-Salts and E, and Walla, good again.

Almost no pain too.

Be SURE to take sarsaparilla, along with Devil's Claw, Cat's Claw, Andrographis, Resveratrol, Stephenia Root, and IF you are serious about feeling BETTER, I can give you more that HAVE and ARE working for ME.
