I have been undergoing Tetracycline treatment (1.5g/day) for the last 8 wks and have been severely herxing to the extent that I wonder if I am on the right track atall. I was wondering if someone has experienced the same:
I have severe burning through my body including my head, and my muscles get too tired that I cant even sit for sometime.
There is so much toxins in my body, that my hand and feet have lost the fat in it (the cushion) and my bones hurt a lot. Also my skin is constantly loosing its texture.
My head has so much toxins that I shake if I try to stand with my eyes closed.
My knees and hips have lost it muscle texture that it is almost difficult to stand at times.
Worst of all, I have severe nerve pain in head, and body esp in the chest and above the knees which get worse with increase in the temperature that I almost pass out. I wonder how some of you could actually sit in a bath as I might pass out.
Also because of the nerve pain, I can actually feel where my nerves are in the back, chest, knees and head.
Is this something you have experienced. I am just wondering if I am killing myself. My LLMD says continue with the meds and you will get better but I am frightened.
HELP.

sounds herxy to me.
Here are some of my threads about herxing in the last year.
I like to break from ABX if the pain or sensations are too much. Everyone is different and has different opinions about this.
I hope my threads will help you---my herx experience sounds similar to yours. One difference: no muscle or fat wasting.

Radha,
I also experienced severe herxes, though my symptoms were very differen than yours.
I actually ended up in the ER after my first herx, because I became paralyzed (it passed after about 4+ hours).
One thing I've done is (variation on what trails suggested) cut back to a lower dose of whatever I'm taking and increase things more gradually -- after 3 or 4 days.
I've just started a new antibiotic for Bart, and I had to do that for the first two days. My reaction was just too severe otherwise. It seems easier for me if I start a bit more slowly.
The other thing I suggest is keeping a daily journal of your symptoms. That way, you can clearly chart your herx activities from month to month. it's also a good way to measure your progress in general. There's an excellent chart at the Lyme Disease Assocnation of SE Pennsylvania.
Hope this all shifts for you soon.

Radha, what are you doing to help your body detox the toxins released when the spirokete is killed?
You must help the body get rid of dead toxins. You need to have the colon, liver, spleen, and gall bladder working well to eliminate that toxic (herx) feeling. Did you know the skin is the largest organ in the body? You're having skin issues.
Sounds like your major organs are screaming for help, IMO.

Thanks for your posts. I am not sure what to do for the detox purposes. I am unable to take any warm shower/bath as it hurts a lot. Even putting my feet in warm water kills me. I am trying to detox by breathing, walking but its too cold in boston to be outdoors much. I am not sure whatelse to do. Reading the tree I decided to go off the ABX for few days to get rid of the toxins, I am not sure if its going to help but feel its worth a try. I guess I may need a long time, but my LLMD says that I shouldnt take more than 2 days and must plough through it.

There's several different remedies to detox. You may want to do a search here. Sauna's, massage, various supplements, enema's, etc.

It is not good to have bad herxes. They do more damage than good. A herx is actually the body crying out for help from you.
That toxic, I'm dying feeling is actually your major organs like the liver, spleen, gall bladder, colon screaming for help.
The thinking that if I feel so bad, it's actually a good thing is wrong. Severe herxes can do more damage to your already taxed organs.
Detoxing should be part of everyday life with this illness. Some suggestions are:
lymph drainage (done on a regular schedule 1 wk etc, every 2 weeks) Can't afford this, buy a rebounder for $30 and bounce on it a few times a day at 5 minute intervals until you build up your stamina.
infra-red sauna
detox baths (daily during very toxic periods)
cleanses for liver, gall bladder, colon, bowels
Colonics
Water, water, water 1/2 your body weight in oz daily. Distilled water when feeling bad.
Health food shop with a knowledgable clerk
Naturopath, alternative type doc
Accupuncture for support of major organs
Detox teas
homeopathy
You need to do internet searches for sites that are all about detoxing. Read what the experts say about detoxing the body. And yes you do not want to detox to quickly. It's also hard on the body to detox toooooo quickly.
Gentle and slow always. But always doing something to help these major organs detox day in and day out.
You can't put abx in the body day in and day out and not clean up the organs. Pulsing abx one week on one week off? Three weeks on, one week off. Give the body a break.
