Hi. Since last summer I have had little white spots on my arms and legs - it's not a rash, more like white spots related to loss of pigment.

It is pretty mild and I am very fair anyway so not that noticeable; just curious what causes it.

My LLMD said many of her patients (including her!) have the same exact condition, but she doesn't know what causes it.

Any ideas?!

Thanks:)

Abby

I thought I heard somewhere that this is yeast. Don't know if that's true but I also heard that applying Selsun Blue, the dandruff shampoo, will help with the problem. I just noticed (maybe within the last 3 months) that I also have the loss of pigment on my arms. May be related to antibiotics. Anyone know?

I heard the same as RESOLVED. My son had some spots on his legs, very noticeable this past summer when he had a tan.

I was told it was tinea-something or other(no, not ringworm but maybe similar?)and that it responds to Selsun Blue shampoo. It's supposedly contracted through soil and common where lots of kids play(my son goes to day camp in the summer.)

It seems to have resolved on it's own so I didn't treat. If it pops up again this summer, I'll try the Selsun Blue.

Bartonella is known to cause this loss of pigmentation. It can also cause pea size brown spots. I have both.

Hmmm - I definitely have Bartonella so maybe that's it, although I might do an experiment with Selsun Blue to see if it improves.

The spots on my arms do seem a little better lately, and I have been treating the bartonella recently so that would make sense too. It did seem to pop up when my bartonella symptoms got worse last summer, but we didn't figure out it was bartonella until recently.

I looked up the tinea condition and it said that it mostly appears on the torso and back, but I have it only on my forearms and shins.

I have darkened pigmentation on my arms - really weird, looks like a splotchy fading tan. I have heard Bartonella causes it and I did have Bart. The pigmentation is VERY slowly leaving and returning to normal.

I also have a mild pigmentation issue; consisting of light spots on my forearms, and a few on my fingers.

I'm assuming this will resolve with treatment? I have not started a serious Bartonella protocol yet.

nefferdun,

The pea-sized brown spots you speak of, do they resemble a mole??

In the summer time a year or so ago, a couple popped up on my chest and stomach. I assumed they were moles, as they are dark as such. The spots are mostly flat, only very slightly raised.

Do these resolve with treatment as well??

Curious,

Wolf

my dermatologist likes to tell me that is sun damage that the white spots are "so" hyper pigmitation that instead of dark they are white. While i do have sun damage there is much more going on then that.
what is really happening is that i have very low level of MSH melanocyte stimulating hormone. this affects how much pigmentation you have in your body.
I was tested for this to see if i had a mold problem. if you look this up on Dr shoemakers site or read his book mold warriors you can see how many things this is reflected in.. he uses as one of his measuring tools in biotoxin problems. i am so tried right now so i am sorry that i will try latter , i am not making much sense right now, sorry!

I have brown spots of varying size that turn white in summer- my doctor told me it was fungal infection and to use selsun blue-it didn't work/it keeps spreading - this came on a few years before all my neuro symptoms started.

Mine is light on my forearm as well. I was born with it, as I'm a congenital Lymie. Even after tx for TBD, mine hasn't resolved. Carol is correct, it's a form of Vitiligo.

Probably vitiligo. I have it on my hands. My doc thinks it is probably related to LD because vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder. Autoimmune disorders can be triggered by LD.

lymebytes says "darkened pigmentation" As far as bartonella goes, are we talking about lack of pigmentation or excess pigmentation? Maybe some of us are predisposed to these spots and they become worse with Lyme. I had a few on my shins over the years, but never on my forearms until a few months ago.(the light ones)
