I've been on Ceftin 500mgx2, and Ketek 800mg for the last 4 weeks. I added Plaquenil 200mgx2 for the last 2 weeks. I am also taking probiotics daily.
My appetite has gone down hill quickly, particularly after the addition of Plaquenil. This week, I could hardly eat anything. Even plain water was too hard to swallow. Stomach felt full all the time.
Anyone on abx and/or Plaquenil had the similar experience? Any tips on how to get GI back on track?
Thanks.

My daughter went through a period and it seems to be starting again when EVERYTHING hurt her stomach and made her feel bloated and full.........I couldn't get her to eat a thing. She is 25 so she is not a child.......well, my child!!
Firstly, have you been checked for systemic yeast, it will make you feel bloated and full? A product called Juice Plus kept her going, she still takes the "Garden and the Orchard" capsules and is starting the shakes again as her appetite is going away again.
I swear by this product, I stumbled onto it when I was trying to figure out what was making her so sick a few years back on an Epstein Barr message board. She has been on it since. It helps her aches, pains and energy a bit too.
Come to find out her LLMD has it in his office!!! He was pleasantly surprised when he discovered she had been on it for years. If you want to try it just go to JuicePlus.com and order the Orchard, Garden and the shakes. You will get the nutrition you need from this product and keep your energy level up. The best part it that it is totally affordable. Lymies need lots of help in the nutrition department.

Your daughter sounds having exact problems I am having now except bloating. I've been forcing strong ginger tea and syrup-like rice porridge with powdery sea moss and pork down to stay alive, and hope that will stimulate appetite. I've been very careful to take mega dose of probiotics, and don't have the old symptoms when I had sytemic yeast years ago. Despite big reduction in food intake, weight hasn't changed. That 40 lbs gained from the illness can't be touched it seems.
How long did it last for your daughter? While she was on Juiceplus, can she eat any normal food? Did she ever fully restore GI while on abx? Lost weight? It scares me to think that's the only thin she had in her body! Did/Does she have a bad Lyme case?
She is very young, and I am young too. It's kind of strange as we are supposedly stronger...

Yes, this happened to me after 2 months of Ceftin and then on Amoxycillin. I dropped 60 lbs. I was given Doxepin, an Rx that targets seratonin in the gut, where your appetite is controlled. It helped me by increasing my appetite, although I think it dulled my senses. I was down to size 0. The Rx helped get me up to a size 4. Then, I stopped taking it and just forced myself to eat until it bacame tolerable. Also, ridding my body of Systemic Candida helped lots. I did that with a raw foods diet, which I don't recommend for the long term, as you can become depleted of nutrients because it is so high in fiber.

Hello,
I am another Leaky Gut Syndrome lymie. 5 mths of daily Advil damaged my intestinal lining. Abx do also. My stomach would burn when I ate and I was unable to eat.
I quickly found www.drmcdougall.com where he has an article about leaky gut and diet. I followed (am still following) his vegan diet plan and had instant relief of stomach burn and within one week, my joint pain had lessened substantially.
In addition to giving up meat, diary and sugar, I ended up having to give up wheat and corn because I would react to it. I probably have an allergy to it but never realized it until this diet.
It is difficult to follow all the time, but if I cheat even a little, I pay a big price with my stomach and joints.
I am also working on healing the leaky gut with probiotics and am looking hard at the Threelac program as it includes collustrum which the doctor says will speed the healing of my gut.
I do not believe vegan diet is healthy for longterm or necessary for people who do not have leaky gut and stomach problems. But it is the least inflamatory diet and I think an important one when you are dealing with these issues. BTW, I was able to add back plant oils (sparingly) without adverse reaction. It was just too hard to find foods that do not have some kind of oil in them.
Good luck!
