Dr. Jones said "if you have an 18 Band on the WB, you have Lyme's disease. The 18 Band never shows up on healthly people and no other bands are necessary" Is he correct????

My LLMD does not "hang his hat" on that band...meaning he won't say you have lyme disease if only that band tests positive.

I definitely have lyme disease. I recently had an IgM WB from Stonybrook with bands 18, 34 and 93 being positive.

My LLMD stated that bands 34 and 93 are "highly suspicious" for the lyme bacteria. Band 18 is "nothing he would hang his hat on."

Just his 2 cents coming to you through me. [Wink]

There is support for Band 18 being an important band in the diagnosis of Lyme. Following is a link to the text of Art Doherty's "And the Bands Played On." And interesting article on all the bands of the western blot, with citations to Medline research.

My daughter is CDC positive with a positive on Band 18; also 23-25+, 39+, 41+, 58+, and 66+.
