I was just diagnosed with Arthritis and Degenerative Disc Disease in my upper spine (thorasic area).

Do you think that it is from the lyme? (I think that it most likely is) I've had lyme probably for almost 40 years of my life. (I'm 42)

I just started physical therapy on Thursday, and I will be going 3 days a week. I hope it helps. My back has been hurting me for 3 years. If the therapy doesn't work - surgery was mentioned.

I was just wondering if anyone else has/had this, and what was your experience?

Thank you for any responses.

Im in southeastern PA too.

I have a severe disc herniation in my neck and disc degeneration in 2 discs.

I believe it is from the lyme. One of the nuerosurgeons i saw thought it was from a diving accident. i never had one.

when i start a herx my neck gets hit first.

Good luck with the therapy i hope it works for you.

Within the first 7 years of being infected with lyme I was diagnosised with degenerative disc disease with arthritci changes in the vertabra in my neck. I was only 26 at the time.

My neck pain/spasms lasted many years and finally lessened over time with PTand neck traction. It still comes back from time to time.

Fast forward to 10 years later and I blew out a disc in my lower back ( had disc repair surgury)and have 4 bulging disc's in my lower back at present.

I also still get neck pain and spasm's that come & go. Much worse when I am herxing.

This could be lyme. And not sure it it is related, but I have to feel, since I have central nervous system lyme and bad neuro problems , it seems like a good chance that bb would pick the joints & disc's in my back & neck as good real state property.

Take care [Smile]

I have both arthritis in my entire spine, plus lumbar stenosis, and DDD in my cervical spine (neck).

The DDD is from the original injury to my neck/head in a car accident, but I believe Lyme contributed.

I think the other two problems are Lyme caused, but can't prove it.

Physical therapy saved me from surgery and horrible pain from a bone spur, so bad I could barely breathe.

I went 3 X weekly for a month, and have continued to do the exercises they taught me 3 X weekly for about 6 years since then, using therabands I bought from the PT for $5 each. Back surgery is very "iffy" at best, so I hope the PT helps you.
