Amazing visual -

A sixth grader did an expereiment with microwaved water. She believed it changed the structure.

Think what it does to our food and our bodies!

In 1989, Swiss biologist and food scientist Dr. Hans Hertel studied the effects of microwaved food. Eight people participated in the study. For eight weeks, they lived in a controlled environment and intermittently ate raw foods, conventionally cooked foods and microwaved foods. Blood samples were tested after each meal. They discovered that eating microwaved food, over time, causes significant changes in blood chemistry:

1. A decrease in hemoglobin and cholesterol values, in the HDL (good cholesterol) versus LDL (bad cholesterol) ratio and in white blood cells, weakening the immune system, and an increase in leukocyte levels, which tends to indicate poisoning and cell damage--conditions ripening the body for degenerative diseases and/or cancer.

2. "The measurable effects on man through the ingestion of microwaved food, unlike untreated food, are blood alterations, that can also be found at the beginning of a pathological condition, also indicative of a beginning cancerous process," wrote Dr. Bernard Blanc, who assisted in the study.

3. Microwave ovens "cook" food by forcing the atoms, molecules and cells within the food to reverse polarity billions of times per second, causing friction--the more the friction, the more the heat. This oscillation tears and deforms the molecular structure of food. New compounds, called radiolytic compounds, which are not found in nature, are formed.

Interestingly, microwaves are actually used in gene-altering technology to deliberately break cells and neutralize their "life-force" so they can be manipulated. Microwaves destroy the life force that gives food its vitality and nourishment. When this life force dissipates, microorganisms start breaking food down and it begins to rot.

In early 1991, a lawsuit was filed against an Oklahoma hospital because a patient died from receiving a microwaved blood transfusion. Hospitals routinely heat blood for transfusion, but not in a microwave.

The effects of microwaving breast milk have also been researched. John Kerner, M.D. and Richard Quin, M.D. from Stanford University said, "Microwaving human milk, even at a low setting, can destroy some of its important disease-fighting capabilities."

4. After more research, Kerner wrote in the April, 1992 edition of Pediatrics that "Microwaving itself may in fact cause some injury to the milk above and beyond the heating."

In addition, a radio announcement at the University of Minnesota said, "Microwaves are not recommended for heating a baby's bottle Heating the bottle in a microwave can cause slight changes in the milk. In infant formulas, there may be a loss of some vitamins. In expressed milk, some protective properties may be destroyed."

5. Another study in Vienna warned that microwaving breast milk "can lead to structural, functional and immunological changes," and that microwaves transform the amino acid L-proline into D-proline, a proven toxin to the nervous system, liver and kidneys.

6. In Russia, microwave ovens were banned in 1976 because of their negative health consequences and many studies were conducted on their use. Here are some of their findings on microwaving food:

* Microwaved foods lose 60 to 90 percent of the vital-energy field and microwaving accelerates the structural disintegration of foods.

* Microwaving creates cancer-causing agents within milk and cereals.

* Microwaving alters elemental food-substances, causing digestive disorders.

* Microwaving alters food chemistry, which can lead to malfunctions in the lymphatic system and degeneration of the body's ability to protect itself against cancerous growths.

* Microwaved foods lead to a higher percentage of cancerous cells in the bloodstream.

* Microwaving altered the breakdown of elemental substances when raw, cooked, or frozen vegetables were exposed for even a very short time and free radicals were formed.

* Microwaved foods caused stomach and intestinal cancerous growths, a general degeneration of peripheral cellular tissues, and a gradual breakdown of the digestive and excretive systems in a statistically high percentage of people.

* Microwaved foods lowered the body's ability to utilize B-complex vitamins, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, essential minerals and lipotropics.

* The microwave field next to a microwave oven caused a slew of health problems as well.

Aside form these studies, many people find that microwaving their food doesn't help them feel good. Stephanie Relfe, Kinesiologist, found herself feeling "gray and rather low" one day and discovered that she had inadvertently eaten microwaved food at a restaurant.

In her practice, Relfe found that all of her patients gave body signals of having allergic reactions to microwaved foods.

Another Kinesiologist, David Bridgeman, said, "Of all the people I test for allergies, 99.9% so far show severe sensitivity to any microwaved food."

Note: The London Telegraph reported Sept. 19, 2004, that microwave weapons will be fitted to U.S. military vehicles already in Iraq in an effort to disperse angry crowds. The weapons, which may be operable as early as this spring, are an attempt by the U.S. to calm growing concern regarding increasing numbers of innocent civilians being killed in Iraq.

The U.S. Department of Defense claims microwave weapons, which cause unbearable pain to the target until he moves out of the beam, cause no long-term damage. "The skin gets extremely hot, and people can't stand the pain, so they have to move - and move in the way we want them to," said Col Wade Hall of the Office of Force Transformation.

We have not had a microwave oven for 5 years or more now. I no alot of other households who have also chosen not to have them.

Cordless phones, cell phones, wireless internet are also things to watch out for. Not as bad as a microwave, but be aware that it is similar radiation, at lower levels, and limit your use when possible.

ways to do without one:

Bring a thermos to school or work. There are new stainles steel ones that dont break.

Heat up leftovers on stove top or in oven. It is quicker than you think. Add a little water, cover with a lid, and dont have the heat too high.

There are gadgets to heat water for tea. But, I dont think the plastic ones should be used. Boiling water in a plastic carafe would leach nasty things from plastic into the water.

A small amount of water in a teakettle heats up quickly. And, other non-microwave freinds of mine use large thermos type carafes at home, so that they only heat water once and have a pot of tea or coffee staying warm and ready to use for many hours.

I did an interesting mini-experiment ("blind") testing out various water sources with "ART" (autonomic response test), twice--by two different naturopathic docs. I took tap water, bottled water, water from my spa (chlorinated), water filtered with PUR "best" faucet filter (Costco), and the same type filtered water that I also microwaved for one minute. All were in identical glass jars, marked only with a letter (A to E), coded to a list I had made when filling the jars. I did not see the letters as the jars were tested, nor did the NDs know what was in each jar--so neither of us knew what was being tested at the time.

Only the PUR filtered water tested positive for me. The results were very clear--my arm would go weak quickly when holding all the others, but easily held strong with the filtered water. The ND's were both surprised with the results, as they thought distilled water would be the only one that would test positive. (I didn't happen to have any of that or would have tested it as well. I didn't even tell them what I was testing at the start.)

The microwaving of the same filtered water negatively changed it somehow. I have used microwaves for the last 30+ years. Hmmmmm. Let's see--maybe that's part of why I haven't kicked the chronic lyme despite all the early and continued abx... I don't use my microwave much anymore, even for warming water.

ART testing is controversial, but this particular experiment has made me think there is more to it than most think. I think "energy" medicine is a baby science right now, and we all have a lot to learn about it.

i think there is a news letter called, 'microwave news' that addresses physics and chemistry of oven-microwaves and the 'microwaved.' never read myself, but heard it referred to by micho kaku.

This is so interesting. Thanks for posting. We rarely use our microwave; (I use it for cheesy nachos.) Now I will use the oven for those, too.

Some time ago, I sewed a long tubular shape(about 27" long x 3" diameter, polar fleece scraps) and filled it with rice to microwave and use as neck/shoulder warmer to ease trapezius muscle tension in my neck and shoulders that comes from working at the computer too long. You can heat it on high in the microwave for 2 to 4 minutes, depending on length you make it. I would advise double stitching the seams before filling, to prevent "leaks" of the rice if it stretches. You can also vary the warmer's shape to suit whatever body part needs soothing.

Buckwheat groats can also be used to fill it instead of rice. (Just don't ever get either filling wet, or you'll have a soggy mess! It will absorb a little air humidity, but re-heating it dries it back out, so if you see moisture when microwaved, that's why.)

Mine looks like those long stuffed "draft stoppers" some people use at the bottom of drafty doors. Make yours long enough and you can stop some cold drafts when it's not on your neck! Makes a great homey gift for your favorite computer nerd, too...

Yeah, I finally got rid of my microwave last year. We got an infrared oven instead. It doesn't boil water, but it can cook frozen foods (and other things) very quickly, safely, and tastily. (Is tastily a word?)

We love it. Don't really miss the microwave at all.

Warmly,
Elizabeth

i always thought it was just me. But microwaved water has always tasted different to me as well as microwaved cheese.

i rarely use it now that i cook everything fresh and over gas.

I gave up my microwave over a year ago after reading info here on LymeNet. I don't miss the microwave at all.

This past weekend I was staying at a friends house where only the microwave was available for making tea. I think I'll buy a little immersion heater to take on trips.

This one's hard for me to beleive
unless she didn't let the water cool sufficiently?
Hot water - regardless - would do the plant in.

bpeck--Science requires experiments that can be duplicated, and actually invites this. so--go ahead and duplicate it. let us know what you come up with.

Sorry...sixth grade science does not make the grade.

Fact: Plastic that is not made specifically to be micro-waved releases dangerous chemicals.

Heated water is heated water...there is no change in the molecular chemistry of two atoms of hydrogen to one atom of oxygen. Microwaves simply speed up the movement of these atoms...thus the heat.

Please do not believe all that you read on the internet.

Cooking solids may be a different story, but no VALID scientific studies exist that prove microwave cooking is dangerous. Millions of people use this, as do restaurants, every day and all of these people are just fine.

Anecdotal evidence offered by "Kinesiologists" is far from scientific. Fact: this stuff was debunked years ago...but the power of suggestion remains intact.

Hell, if I put water in a container usd to store chemicals, that I thought was cleaned out properly, and tried to water my plants, I am sure I would see dead plants in a few days as well.

Microwaves, like Silver Amalgam fillings and Nutrasweet, have been the focus of off-center people for years, and just yesterday a new study had shown that mercury in fillings does NOT have an adverse effect on children. The same was shown fo Nutrasweet recently...but I will bet you that there will be those that have nothing better to do than to try and refute these findings...(that were done with valid scientific protocols in place).

Be careful what you take as fact from the internet. There ae too many unqualified "Experts" out there waiting to get become famous.

Stay healthy...get the facts...not silly opinions.

It takes knowledge in physicis to understand it.
The Russians dumped microwaves years ago.

Our body does not recognize the food molecule as altered by microwaves. It does not know how to utilize it. There is research where animals were fed the best food, but microved; all animals eventually died. I think it was Pottinger's Cats
research. I have the info in my files, but I am not going to bother. People that do not hear/listen. will eventually feel. It is an old German saying. Nothing more true.
I would rather do without a microwave than be sick for the rest of my life. I love my new-found health.

It is not just the one single solitary mistake we make in the way we live, eat and drink -- it is the combination of just a few minor ones that do us in. Synergy. One LD (lethal dose) of a toxin only may kill one of 100 test animals. One LD of two toxins kills all 100 test animals. This has been repeated over and over. Add the microwaved foods to that and we will be gone before your time.

The research is available. The publication is not always available - for very obvious reasons.

We can only crawl out of this hell-hole Lyme if we learn some of the good things and stick with them. Antibiotics alone will not get you anywhere -- the next little or big problem just waits around the corner. Antibiotics alone just got me into deeper and deeper misery. Add a few supplements - that won't do it either. It takes a total overhaul of the way we think. Our food and our mind, the way we think, lead the way to a better life.

Just a bit of our philosophy that led us out of the Lyme jungle.

Take care.

The sixth grade plant experiment was just a visual..
topic conversation piece I guess.

There is plenty of science behind the effect of microwave energy on food, as well as humans who live with the technology in their kitchens.

I believe studies were done in Sweden years ago as well on human effects/Cancer.

If a microwave does this to food, surely it can effect water on a molecular/energetic level..

For mainly instinctual reasons origionally - I never, ever wanted one..
was forced to take one years ago when my bridesmaids pitched in and got me an expensive unit as a surprise -
It went in my kitchen and I never used it, except to melt butter I think..

Some stuff I just 'knew' as a child -
like when I put all the little pink floride pills my Mom gave me in the heating vent instead of in my mouth -

but I ate the Fruitloops and Spaghettios..
People do the best they can, how can they know when there is so much lack of education on health? And so much pushed for commercial interests?
There is a whole section of the grocery stores dedicated to microwave foods -
all packaged in plastic!

Everyone around me uses microwave daily, my entire family, friends, ect..to the point I have to ask that my food/tea not be cooked in there, and I leave the room when it turns on.

Imagine the looks I get [Big Grin]
What ever [Roll Eyes] ........ I'm not shy about getting/staying healthy anymore.

Many of them use it every time they heat a babies milk in the bottle!
Every time they warm a meal.

-- seems like another one of those things people will be resistant to look at because it is
'part of life'. This will eventually be common knowledge, it just makes sence.

Hey,

Im an electrical engineer and well taught in science. But, I no longer own a microwave so cant duplicate teh experiments myself.

Microwaving in plastic does contaminate the water. But, we dont know what was used, she may have used a glass cofee mug or paper cup. Although, Most people I see when I visit their home, microwave in plastic !

It is not helpful to debunk data without facts. What is the urban legend you are refering to ?

It is better to look at what data we're shown and ask, was the water cooled ? what container was used ? These are valid points. Because, the one plant was obviously not doing well, it is good to see if there could be any other contributing factors.

Maybe someone here who owns a microwave would like to see if they can duplicate the results ? And, definitelly use a glass container and cool the water. I understand experimant protocol and plant care, you can email me with what you plan to do. Another thing that can be done if you doubt the results, is to ask these two questions of the experimenter, if there is an email address.

I have heard plenty on how microwaving destroys food value. This is the first Ive seen about water. I think it was a great experiment idea.

Science isnt about (in theory anyway!!!) throwing away new data that doesnt fit existing models. A piece of data like this experiment gives us a theory or hypothosis (I cant remember the right word....), it is not proof yet. The experiment needs to be able to be duplicated, the details reviewed, etc...

Some freinds of mine define science as the ability to predict future events with better than random results. This can be applied to all areas.

We make observations, we test out new ideas.... And as humans we apply this constantly. Although, I think the younger we are, the more readily we learn and believe what we observe, and the more readily we experiment. As we get older, what we believe to be true can sometimes get in the way.

If I walk out in front of a car, whats gonna happen ?... I know the answer, as a child by having car behavior pointed out to me and doing my own observations.

If I touch the stove....

If I eat a certain way, I feel bad....

We use some theories that are unproved,( ie I know a few physics theory applied to dense hard disk drives or semiconductors). These are used because we are secure that this material or technique will act in a reproducable way in the parameters we are using it.

It could be that this experiment is not reproducable. If it turns out to be that the actaul microwaving changed how the water worked, then our model of how we understand water to work will need updating. Science constantly gets updated.

Still having two atom of hydrogen and one of oxegen may not be sufficient for water to be "good" and do what we have come to expect. There may be other factors at work that we presently dont pay attention to. How these atoms relate to each other energy wise or ???

Personally, I would wonder if the microwaved water would regroup and be more usable to the plant (assuming if the inital experiment is reproducable) when (a) left to sit for various long periods of time or (b) stirred or shaken or let fall as in waterfall.... In any case, teh time between microwaving the water and cooling it, and then applying it to the plant would be an important point to note and keep consistent.

Be open. not knowing the reason why doenst mean a phenomina isnt real.

Keep asking questions. Keep observing.

And remember, ther is alot of mystery left in the world, and we still have lots to learn
