Want to report an interesting thing that has happened.
Over the last several weeks, my intestines have been shooting with pains and filled with inflammation. I decided it was due to the antibiotics and am on my third week break from them. (although, I know that the inflammation is also due to the lyme itself because I have had it off and on over the years even before diagnosed)
Oddly, although I continued using some herbs, the inflammation and pain in my intestines had not subsided like I thought it might.
However, it may take some time for my own bodily flora to flourish.
Anyway, although with a negative test for babesia, I do have it, and took 3-4 weeks of mepron zith combo before stopping. I intend to start back up on that soon.
But the point about the garlic. I had some raw garlic in olive oil last night...which has cause a huge herx in my teeth/head! But at the same time, has seemed to move out some of the intestinal problem as the swelling has gone down.
What do you think? Garlic is pretty powerful, but why is it that this disease just switches one symptom for another!!!

Ive been taking a garlic suppliment twice a day now that im off abx to treat yeast. I think i herx from it.
A few years ago after my tick bite in 2000, i thought i was allergic to garlic. After eating it my gums would tingle and sort of burn, then my stomach would really really burn.
Last year a coworker ate garlic at her desk and she smelled of it...the smell made me terribly sick.
Now i can eat it without a problem and the smell of it cooking is appealing to me, it no longer makes me so sick.
I would like to know why the symptoms move around too...for me its not so much symptom movement...but the same symptom with greater intensity from day to day.

I get a yeast herx from garlic, but it also about the only thing that really works on me to treat yeast problems.
I've taken garlic supplements for years before Lyme. But once I was diagnosed and increased my garlic dosage, I got the headache-type of herx - something I had never had.
So I presume it was either candida or the tick-borne illnesses dying off. Garlic is both a natural anti-fungal and antibiotic.
These past few days, I've been having yeast problems again, attempted to increase my garlic dosage, and sure enough, had the herx.
So I think it's mostly yeast. But when I had to go off abx for several months, my LLMD said that garlic could at least work a little for Lyme treatment.

For the last week I have been finely cutting a clove of garlic and leaving it to the air for 5 minutes- for the allinin to covert to allicin- Then I swallow it- without chewing- with some water- followed by a couple of spoonfuls of yogurt-
I noticed the oddest thing in my poos ( apologies to newbies or those among us that are queasy)
There were little air holes in them for a few days!
I've never seen anything like this before-
I wondered whether it is bacteria die off in the colon- where the bacteria are giving off oxygen ( or gas) as they die and are causing this...
Any thoughts? I am feeling pretty good and will continue with this for a while-
my thought is that we need RAW garlic to really get the anti bacterial properties...
Hope- Sarah

Dr. Z in NY treats Lyme Disease with Allicin.
His informative website is no longer up, but if you google his name and key words, such as allicin, you can pull up cached pages of information.
Example:
Allicin Clinical Applications: It has been used for:
1. Lyme Disease, as an anti-spirochete agent, because it has strong ability passing blood brain barrier, it is especially good for central nerve system infections.
2. Bacterial infections. It suppresses gram positive and negative bacteria. Good for bronchitis, sinusitis. For tuberculosis, especially for drug-resistant T.B.
3. Fungal infections, Candidiasis and deep fungal infections
4. Protozoa infections, Amebic dysentery,
5. Use as strong anti-oxidant
=======
Lyme disease herbal treatment consists of three major sections: 1. Anti-Spirochete (anti-Borrelia burgdorferi), 2. Anti-Babesia 3. Supportive therapies for related complications.
For most patients, the first line of herbal remedies consists of Allicin Capsules, HH Capsules and Circulation P Capsules.
Especially for those with central nerve system symptoms, such as memory loss, mind fogginess, difficulty with concentration, difficulty in finding words, and cognition problems, the Allicin is essential.
If the patient has less CNS symptoms, or if the patient can't tolerate the odor of the Allicin, or does not respond well to the Allicin Capsules, then a second-line formula can be used as a substitute.
The Allicin replacement formula can either be Coptin Tablets, or Formula R-5081 Capsules.
Thus, a second-line protocol would consist of Circulation No.1 Capsules, HH Capsules plus Coptin Tablets, or Circulation No.1 Capsules, HH Capsules plus R-5081 Capsules.
The Duration of the anti-Lyme spirochete treatment course is at least six months.
The advantage of using Allicin is its active ingredient, allitridi, which has an extremely small molecular weight, (162.27) making it very penetrative.
It can easily penetrate the blood brain barrier which makes it very suitable for CNS infections.
In addition, Allicin, HH, and Coptin have wide anti-microbe spectrums.
When used for anti-spirochete treatment, they can also suppress fungi, so the treatment will not cause fungal overgrowth, avoiding antibiotics' side effects.
These formulas are designed to support the body will have beneficial effects on the patient rather than cause harmful side-effects.

After steady ABX treatment for a few months I developed "Thrush Mouth" or "Black Furry Tongue". Chewing almost raw garlic cloves daily (I nuke for 30 seconds so they aren't as strong) it cleared up in a few days. Before I started my tongue, gums, and teeth had turned quite black, so it was pretty bad.
I still take garlic as supplement to my other meds.
Very effective, seems the more raw, the more effect.

I firmly believe garlic is a good fighter for lyme.
I can't take it right now . It can be hard on the stomach in high concentrations.

I love freeze-dried garlic. It really needs to be either fresh or freeze-dried. I get mine from BioPure at www.BioPureUS.com. It seems to be the best garlic I have found and I have used several over the years.
