I had this shot done by a Rheumatologist Tuesday. WOW what pain and great herx. Anyone else have this done or know about it, It;s over 48 hours and still have burning eyes, Lyme headache, terrible knee pain in BOTH knees, low fever, fog and nausea. haven't had a herx like this since steroids needed for asthma that wouldn't quit two years ago. Thanks, jane

here's a link for synvisc

http://www.synvisc.com/ussyn_synvisc_pi.pdf

It seems to me this should not cause a herx-it is hylarunaic acid (spelling is off) which the body naturally makes- this is more of replacing what the body doesn't make enough of rather than using a med to cover symptoms.

Are you allergic to it?

Have you tried glucosamine which anyone can buy at a drugstore or walmart, etc

I had a steroid shot to the knee which activated latent lyme in my body. (Orthopedic doctor didn't know why I was falling apart).

Later had 5 hyaluronic acid injections into the knee. They were pretty pricey. Helped about a week or so. That was it.

I don't think that they should cause a herx.

Thanks for help and advise. I do take glucosimine. Did you get pain after shot, not steroids. I know steroids trigger a herx, had tha 2 years ago to stop asthma attack, and had worse herx of my life. This is almost as bad. Could be a coinsidence?? Jane

Hi Jane,

synvisc or halcygon is synthetic synovial fluid injected into the knees to replace what your bodies synovial fluid is not producing.

In my experience it was the replacement of fluid I could no longer produce due to surgery removal of my cartiledge and synovial sacks.

I gained reliefe of pain after initial two weeks of pain...after injection...

I had this procedure done about three times until I no longer benefitted from it's use....then had to have my knees totally replaced.

This stuff should not trigger lyme exacerbation.

It did not with me at least.

I would suggest you may be allergic to chickens or chicken eggs/products.

Jane, I don't know if I'd necessarily classify your experience with steroids as a herx. My son's asthma flared once while he was being treated for lyme/babs. Our doc prescribed low dose steroids for a few days.

He stated that the steroids would bring back an exacerbation of symptoms because the steroids shut down the immune system. He was absolutely right. However, my son went back to normal a few days after ceasing the steroids.
