I have been on Ketek now for seven weeks. I have had two herx reactions and am feeling pretty good other than that. However, the past week I have had a tightness in my chest and my heart has started racing sometimes. Sometimes with very little provocation. I talked with my doctor about it and he believes that more than likely it is a nuisance and not something to be concerned about. I am still a little concerned about it, though. Has anyone else experienced these types of problems while on Ketek? I don't want to overlook something that could be serious, but my LLMD is quite a ways away and I don't know how my primary care physician would treat the situation.

In Dr. B's 2005 guidelines, it does say that Ketek can affect the heart's Q-T interval. I would download those guidelines from the Newbies section or from ILADS and show it to your doctor.

If you haven't had one, you should have an EKG just before starting ketek (to get a baseline) and then about 2 weeks into it. That's what my LLMD recommends anyway.

Yes I did experience the same symptoms as you on Ketek... If you read the literature on Ketek or ask your pharacist, you'll discover this as a side effect of Ketek.
It should subside somewhat when you discontinue.
You may want to get your ticker checked out.
For me it seems to have decreased the heart palpitations I used to experience. I still get them but not as pronounced.

Hey thanks for the responses so far. I did have an EKG done a couple of weeks ago before all of this started and my LLMD said that there was nothing to be concerned about on there.
zman can you clarify for me. Are you still taking ketek or did you go off of it to resolve the heart palpitations? Was that what your LLMD recommended?
Thanks

sorry--off topic but you are in Utah??!! I'm from SLC, probably got bit in the Wasatch, certainly in the West.
I am really trying to find out what resources are out there in Utah, Colorado ,and N.M., where I live now. are there drs, LLMD, anything support groups in Utah??? It sounds like you are going out of state for your LLMD?!
I am really wanting to think about coming "home", with everything going on but I want to know if there is help out there.
My web searches and even looking around when I am in SLC have turned up not a thing other than a researcher on lyme arthritis at the University of Utah (who was nice enough to repsond to my husband's email).
Would you mind sending me a private post if you have any info?
thanks and take care

I had those symptoms after trying the full recommended ketek dosage of 800mg all at once. At 400mg twice a day, the symptoms stopped.
