For the many who sent me messages requesting the brownie recipe I alluded to on a recent post - here it is:

1 stick organic butter

3-5 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder or 3 oz unsweetened chocolate baking bar

1.5 c 100% Egg Protein (Vitol) - you could probably substitute a high quality whey, but I've never tried it

3 free-range eggs

1-2 Tbsp stevia (Stevita works best)

1 Tbsp vanilla extract

pinch salt

1-2 Tbsp filtered water (or 2-4 Tbsp raw milk)

2/3 c raw, shelled hemp or flax seed (I soak for at least 30 minutes for moister, chewier brownies)

2 tsp aluminum-free baking powder

1. Melt butter and chocolate in saucepan over low heat. Mix in with egg protein, eggs, stevia, vanilla, salt, and water/milk beating until even consistency.

2. Stir in seeds and baking powder; pour into 9x9 glass baking dish. Bake for 20-25 minutes on 325.

3. Cool on wire rack, preferably overnight.

I didn't come up with this (although I've added my own little things), but I got it from a friend so I don't know who to give props to.

Whoever came up with it, it's phenomenal and I don't get sick eating it.

I also like to stop after step 1 and just eat the batter (without seeds or baking powder). Very tasty, although store-bought eggs wouldn't taste as good raw. Another thing I like to do is refrigerate some full-fat coconut milk and pour it on the brownies, top with stevia and cocoa nibs, for a "brownies and ice cream" treat.

One person asked about the egg protein powder - I've never tried, but I'm sure you could adapt it using a good whey powder. Vitol makes the 100% Egg Protein (I get it from supplementcentral.com).

The original recipe calls for unsoaked hempseeds, but although they are more nutritious than flax seeds, I came up with the idea of using soaked flax seeds since (1) they are cheaper, and I don't digest either one anyway, (2) when soaked, they get all slimy and make the original recipe (very crumbly!) moist and chewy, and (3) soaked flaxseeds move bowels as well as anything I've ever tried. So next time you find yourself constipated, think: BROWNIES!

Enjoy!

Big B, I just couldn't figure out why this post would be in medical vs. general support until I read the last line for CONSTIPATION!

So I'd like to ask you to edit/PENCIL icon your topic line to add "brownies for contipation" then hit edit button to enter ...

Now you've got everyone's attention, and it's very helpful when we use the SEARCH feature looking in topic lines only for "constipation". Thanks so much for helping us all out! [Big Grin]

Dana, the consistency is pretty crumbly unless you soak the flaxseeds; you just gotta play with things!

I've also changed the subject line to include the word "constipation" to help Betty and others in their searching.
