Exactly every 28 days I deteriorate. This can last from 4-10 days.

I have been on Abx for six months and my good days get better but my bad days are pretty bad.

At 28 days what exactly is happening in my body? Are the bugs waking up to mate and then die from abx? or Would this flare happen with or without abx?

Would it be wise to increase dose during flare or reduce dose?

Also, do the coinfectins flare in 28 day cycles or just Bb?

Thanks to all the smart people here!

You are describing a herx. I'll let someone with more knowledge fill you in on the details.

Every 3-4 weeks our WBCs regenerate. Neutrophils are the most abundant.

They contain calprotectin which binds zinc.

Bb's outer cell wall looks to be zinc+cholesterol.

I would also be interested in why this happens. Sure enough, my daughter was feeling unusually sick today; headahce, stomach problems, achey everywhere. She just kept saying that something was wrong. Checked my "symptom calendar" and sure enough today is 28 days since last "real bad" day.

What you are describing is NOT a HERX.

This disease as I have read is cyclical...
I not only get flareups monthly but every six months I seem to get MAJOR flare-ups...

Anyway, the biology as I have read is due to the regeneration of the spirochete...

Yes I think increased doses at this time would help...however...

Say if you treated last time with a pennicillin family...chances are the offspring will be immune to this family so switch to a different family...

And so on and so forth...

even pulse so the offspring won't have immunity at all...
I believe these approaches have more effect than constant monthly/daily doses...

But that's only what I'm doing...

I usually have one or two great(almost feel normal) days just prior to returning cycle or flare.

So I nail it with one or the other of abx's I have on hand...
Usually always with a pulse of a couple days of metronidazole...250mgs twice or sometimes three times a day...the 500mg dose makes my liver quiver...

hope this helps....zman

Marnie, does the wbc's do this in the same cycle with kete regeneration?

I tend to agree with zman about the cyclical aspect of the spirokete. I would guess that the pain is related to inflammation associated with the birth of the new generation???

I also had a horrible six month episode, and I also feel absolutely great the couple days before the flare.

My llmd says she gets the best results by staying with one drug that shows improvement over time.

Since I am generally getting better, I will stick with her regimine for now but it does make sense to pulse up something new the days before the flare.

Why do we have to take abx for the other three weeks? Is it killing anything those weeks?

Thanks for your responses!
