I am taking art with 500 mg zith and plaquenil. I cant tolerate mepron. Have been for 3 weeks now and will continue till end of month when I see LLMD.
Some have said you must take art with mepron -- resistance will occur. Is this TRUE????
I was thinking a macrolide (zith) was substantial enough to prevent resistance.

I am not aware of any reason that Mepron would reduce the resistance to Artemisinin. Will be interested in comments from others if this is documented.

Of course I cant find the post now, but very recently someone replied on another post that taking artemisinin without mepron or some other protozoan fighting med would breed resistance. THis was not the first time I have heard this.
I have never seen any articles nor heard any docs talk about it this way.
Still up for anyone who can lead us to any research or personal experience.

My doc told me not to take just mepron or just zith, but be sure to take both together. When I needed to take a couple of days break from the mepron, he was adamant that I stop both mepron and zith lest I develop resistance. I am not sure of the mechanisms, but for some reason it seems that you need sort of "opposing" forces with this combination. My humble opinion, but I would not risk it. I developed resistance to mepron/zith after 3 months of taking it and ended up right back where I started before I poured 3 bottles of the liquid gold down my throat. Babs resistance is no fun at all.
Good luck.
