Hi folks, Since I ask Dr. Jones to approve all my posts on his fund before I send them out, I need to tell you that this post is strictly from me. I'm sending out this wonderful suggestion from Carol Glennon too late to run it by Dr. Jones, but I'm sure you will all be grateful for the suggestion.
Tomorrow is Father's Day. I realize that this is late notice, but here's Carol's suggesion:
"There are lots of fathers, grandfathers, uncles, sons, nephews, godfathers who don't need another tie or sleeve of golf balls, but would feel HONORED that someone they care about is OR WILL BE protected because a contribution is made towards Dr. Jones' fund IN THE HONOREE'S NAME.
"Kids/donors could give/make males a card announcing gift made in their Dad's, uncle's, etc. NAME. Donation instead of gifts or downsize gifts and share the difference w/ Jones' fund.
" Each donation contributes to saving some kid's life... that's no small gift!"
So, I hope I'm getting this great idea out in time for you to take advantage of it.
But Carol is full of other great ideas. She recently sent a contribution to Dr. Jones' fund, in a child's name, as a gift to Alexander and his newly adoptive parents, in celebration of their son's arrival.
She said, "this child will have enough toys, clothing, furniture, and 'baby gear' .... but he can never receive enough research, good physicians, protection or treatments if he ever contracts Lyme. ... It's a gift of life, no less than a kidney or blood transfusion.'
Another of Carol's suggestions - that many of us adults could make contributions in memory of our fathers and grandfathers who are deceased - meant a lot to me. It sounds like such a positive way to make something good out of any sadness about loss that can sometimes be brought up on Father's Day.
Another friend is making honorary donations as gifts in the names of students who are graduating this May and June.

Your suggestion to send a contribution as a memorial to a family member brought tears. First, because of the poignancy and relevance it has and secondly because I am so touched that you have lent your creative gifts to this work during a period of such intense personal suffering.
Thank you also for your deeply affecting poem. I have been trying to find adequate words to reply to your thread.
Please everyone, consider Carol's suggestion.

FFWW, I didn't see Carol's poem and didn't know that she had had a recent loss
I spoke to her this weekend and she was her usual upbeat self. Please send the poem again. I would like to contact her again, but don't really know what has happened. Ellen
