I cant go on like this anymore, I just simply cant. I was doing ok with this Lyme thing-learning to accept it and trying to find a way to kill it. However, with my scalp acting up the last month and a half, I cant take it anymore!!!! Its literaly the straw that is breaking the camels back!!!!!

My dr is sending me to dermatology. My scalp itches, burns and worst of all, my hair is falling out. My hair isnt breaking off at the ends, the whole hair shaft and everything comes out (can even see the white roots). Ive tried everything and I cant make the itching and burning go away and I cant stop the hair loss.

I honestly don't know how much more of this I can take!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not want to lose my hair!!! I know its probably vain, but thats just one thing I cant do!! Not to mention that with all my other symptoms, I cant handle this one on top of it!!!

Isnt there something, ANYTHING that helps with the hair itch and loss?????? Anyone else get this at all?? Im so ready to give up on everything.

Nancy, so many of us have felt as you do now. It can and does get better. It may be bad now, but hold on to hope that you will improve.

What were your test results? What treatments are you using?

I have this now, I was off antibiotics, and off them too long and so the lyme got much worse, and now back on them, and having severe herxing on the scalp, acid burn like so I do know what you mean.

I get this from herxing, not sure if you do, but to relieve it you can sauna to sweat out the itch, and also lots of water. I have had hair loss at this time too, not before, so know the feeling... I also am getting a type or brain burning feeling and this is really scary, when this happens, I am so down and depressed, then when the brain burning stops, the mind is wee bit better.

I am on the biaxin and flagyl again, I am also getting face itch as well, really tough this itch.

Nancy,

What are you taking? Could it be a drug reaction?

My next two guesses are yeast and thyroid. Are you on an anti-yeast regimen? Has your thyroid been checked?

hey Nal : I know how you feel.I really do.It feel like it is forever but it will pass too.

It sounds like a dermal herx, which you probaly have figured out.The last time I had a dermal herx--afterwards I felt the best I had felt for years.

I took benadril ,which helped alot!.Have you tryed putting lemon juice in your drinking water? Also helpful; was liquid caladryl.I think this could be applied to the scalp?.Question for derma doc.

As far as hair falling out. When your dermal herx is over your hair will grow back.I hope you get some relief at the derma doc.

I am sorry and I don't think your vain at all about the hair thing.

Take care dana [kiss]

Nal, which drugs are you on? While no one can guess exactly what is happening with you, what you are describing sounds like an active Lyme symptom. So you may be on drugs that are too weak, or you may be experiencing a temporary flare of Lyme before the drugs you are taking eradicate this latest generation of it. So you may want to review what you are on, and see if you can get something stronger. And even the strongest drugs take at least a month before you start seeing improvement.

By the way, I'm not involved with the private message system at the moment, I just go through Lymenet once every few days, and happened to see your post.

Hang in there! I felt like you did a few days ago...

While i dont have the significant hair loss that you describe...i do have hair loss and it is very scary.....i shower and thick strands come out...whole strands....this was one of my first symptoms. My hair never looks clean no matter how much i wash it...always has a dead look to it...almost grey look. I have thick hair so maybe that is helping me i dunno i do know that i feel it is starting to thin.

I hope the derm will be able to help you with this...maybe there is some vitamin deficency causing it...thyroid or a reaction to the abx.

this disease is tough, but you cant let it beat you...its tough but you must stay strong no matter what. You can do it [group hug]

Many many hugs!!

HI NAl,

You may feel as tho you cannot take anymore, but you will and you will beat this darn disease and be whole again.

I would call the drugstore and check on all possible side affects. {Combos}

I have lost hair too.

Stay strong. So many of us have been there, and wanted to give up. Fact is, you really can't just give up. You will get through this, it is just going to take time. The symptom you are having now will be fixed. Every day you get closer to the symptom being gone. Take action! Go to the dermatologist, have your thyroid hormones tested, get a full allergy workup. Try to relax. All of us have symptoms we deal with every day, all day. Some are worse than others, but I promise you, it will get better in time. Stay strong, stay the course, and keep seeking the cause. We are all going through the same thing, You can do it too!

You guys are all so sweet -thank you so much! I am currently on flagyl, rifampin, diflucan and I just started IM bicillin again today. I have an allergist who is following this and says my scalp looks fine-no evidence of a fungal infection. My primary dr agrees. My LLMD wants to take a look at my scalp on Monday. However he feels it is related to the Lyme as well.

Is it a drug reaction? Possible, but who knows. My pharmacist has assured me that the anti's I am on do not have these as side effects even when taken in combos. Id like to think it's just a herx. If it's a side effect, Im stuck. Im on the last regimine that they can come up with now-Ive tried all kinds of antibiotics.

I have changed shampoos-all natural ones that my homeopathic dr recommended yesterday. I also have to start Cod liver oil supplements once again.

Im not giving up-just tired of fighting at times. Thanks a bunch for the support.

Don't give up, I know losing hair is very disheartening.....I seem to go through it every summer..

Here's a link: hair loss

Then go try some Nioxin from your hairdresser or get it online.....I swear it helped my hair grow back in faster. I lost hair at random all over no patches and by the handfuls every day, but the new hair is now 3 inches long, after being "nub size" in Aug......My hair is wavier to.

I don't think it's the antibiotics at all. I think it's part of lyme.

If you do a search on "hair loss" you'll find lots to read about!!

Hang in there!!

Gail

Flagyl affects hair, makes it go real limp, makes it look greasy and makes it thin as well.

Have you tried pulsing the flagyl?

I have an itching, burning and stinging scalp as well. It is a little better on abx. I'd be interested in hearing what you found out about it. My doctor's have no clue. Washing your hair more often (like several times a day if necessary) is helpful.

I am losing hair too. I have alot of landscape showing up on top. It started when I started bicillin about 18 months ago. It falls out the most during flares or herxes. Its depressing, but I know its supposed to grow back. I have lots of skin inflammation, burning, hot spots,on my scalp too. No wonder my hair falls out. I start rifampin next month with my Zith so hopefully this a symptom of Bart. Hang in there.

The hair issue is actually a little better. Havent had the itchy scalp for a while. We think its a reaction to Prilosec that I am on and I am slowly weaning off of it.

However, I also switched to all natural shampoos. Ive used both Aubrey and Jason brands and have been pretty happy with both and it doesn't seem to irritate my scalp anymore.

Sorry about the burning patches-been there too!!

I am on several medications with hair loss as a side effect. Hair is the only thin part of my body.

I just think of a cancer campaign I saw that said "We can live without our hair-but we can't live without Hope"

My hope gets a little thin, too, sometimes-but it always grows back. Now with Lymnet I have a full head of hope.

Anyone notice all the smilies are BALD?

I remember reading in the thing that came from the pharmacy that DIFLUCAN CAN caused hair loss.

I had it happen to me and this was before I was diagnosed with lyme...we stopped the diflucan because of how bad it was getting.

Hi Nal,

I usually have more questions than advice but I think I can tell you that your hair loss is defintly from the Diflucan.I was on it for several weeks when my hair was coming out by the handfull's.I then read the side effect's that it indeed my cause hair loss.

I then stopped taking it imediatly and very soon after the problem corected itself. Terri

Carol,

You gave me my first laugh of the day! The smilies are all bald!

Nal-I haven't had the itchy scalp but have had random itchy places that have turned very red, sore from all the washing and itching I did.

Finally, I gave in to a steroid cream but also combined with calendula cream which was very soothing for what it is worth.

Started taking anything that would help my skin, fish oils, hyaluronic acid, coconut oil anything to lube my skin up.

Gotten it cleared up slowly.

Take care.
