Hi everyone. I havent been here in so long - I had actually been feeling half way decent [Smile] I had been on Omnicef for awhile and it obviously did a world of good.

But.... since I kind of "plateaued" - granted, I wasnt complaining since it was the best I had been in 8 years - my doc on Long Island put me on 2 weeks of Ketek alternating with 2 weeks of Flagyl. I am still taking the Omnicef and also just started Questran powder (GROSS!!!).

I started the Ketek and Questran this past Monday, of course, during my normal week of the month that I dont feel so great because thats when the Lyme is more active. Needless to say, I am feeling horrible!! I am close to calling the doc and saying that I just cant do this. I have 2 small kids and I feel like I cant even function with them!

Any ideas on how long this herx might last or any thoughts?? Id really appreciate it.

Thank you everyone [Smile] -- Michele

Ketek is a strong drug! I was in bed for 6 days with my first herx from it... but in my case it has been SO worth sticking it out -- it has made a huge difference in the long run. I pulsed off it, and then back on slowly, and haven't had that kind of herx again. Of course, this is just *my* experience.

I'm sorry you are feeling so rough... Flagyl is known for causing horrendous herxes, too (I haven't been on that one, yet.)

Be sure to get your liver panels done regularly while on the Ketek -- it can cause bad, bad (even fatal) liver problems for some folks.

Hi and thanks for responding! How long were you on it when you resumed to "normal" -- whatever your "normal" was before you started taking it? And why did you go off of it and then back on?

Sorry for all the questions - just trying to figure out what I want to do!

Hi,

I've been on Ketek off and on since Dec last year. When I started it was rough! Herxed big time, and it took about 3 months till I felt better than my pre-Ketek "normal". Took a break from Ketek while on IV for 3 mos, and now I'm back on Ketek, Omnicef, Malarone, and pulsing flagyl monthly, just added diflucan today.

I also have a little person, so I empathize with you - herxing with kids is a stinker. Do you have anyone you can call on for help till the worst part passes?

Aside from the liver issues, watch out for your vision - I've had depth perception issues and double vision while on Ketek, esp at night, so driving is out for me, especially with kids in the car.

The thought of 2 weeks on flagyl makes me cringe - how are you handling that? I pulse 5 days each month, and it's a huge herx - I dread doing it each month, and try to schedule help during that time. That's worse for me than Ketek.

Hope the herx passes swiftly & you're back to a comfortable place soon!

The Ketek herx just lasted a couple weeks for me. Then I started feeling much better on it. I had great improvement while on Ketek.

But make sure you are getting regular liver tests, and there does appear to be a link between Ketek and liver damage.
