My four-year-old has been on Biaxin for 2 months. Can this drug cause a problem with kidneys or bladder? She feels pressure like she has to pee but nothing is coming out. She has been trying to pee for 3 or 4 hours tonight. She cannot sleep and it is after 11:00 here in CA. I cannot get a hold of her LLMD. Should we go to emergency? Help please.

In a word, YES -- go to the emergency room! The bladder can burst if it truly cannot be emptied -- and that can be fatal.

I have heard of urinary retention being caused by both abx and by lyme -- I wouldn't wait any longer -- go to the ER and work the details out with the LLMD later. This is an emergency.

Hi! I suggest calling the ER folks NOW; see what they have to say when you explain about her taking biaxin for her lyme disease.

Do you have a print out for BIAXIN that came with the med addresing children/abx?

We've had adults on here that couldn't pee either; painful! Best wishes.

I don't think Dr. B's 2005 LYME TREATMENT GUIDELINES have anything in there about that. Did you print it off as I suggested when I sent you the newbie links from TREEPATROL'S NEWBIE LINKS found up above in medical. GOOD LUCK.

I am not sure how long it is safe to go without urinating. Three or four hours doesn't seem too bad yet. I would call the ER and ask them if you should come in or not.
When someone can't urinate they put in a foley and drain the urine out. My grandpa and grandma both have had to have this done.
I think lyme can cause bladder problems.
It has been really hot today in CA. Did she have enough water today? Just a thought that she might be dehydrated.

She finally was able to urinate tonight. You never saw a happier little girl. She is asleep now. I spoke with a triage nurse and she advised us to go to urgent care first thing in the morning for some tests. So that's what we'll do. We'll also give her lots to drink and hold off on the abx until we can speak with her LLMD. Thank you all for your responses. Yes, Bettyg, I did print out Dr. B's protocol and we have referred to it just about everyday. Very helpful and encouraging.

Try to do a search on posts by Crime of Lyme..She always has to deal with such issues..Her daughter was born with lyme disease and has major issues with this..

While I think congenital lyme caused this, she would be the expert on this in my book..She recently posted a reply to someone and listed her email address, think it was in Melanie's post on how to help others but that is not the title.

Good luck..It is hard on mom's when the kids are so sick...lymemomtooo

Mommy,

Same thing happened to my husband a few months ago.

He has a history w/ the uroligist and has to go every 6 months to check for blockage in the utherthura now.

He was and still is on maralone and zith. Zith and biaxin are in the same family of antibiotics.

I'm so glad she got relief. It is very uncomfortable.

Healing and blessings

Hi All,

A couple of you recommended I contact Crime of Lyme for info on the urination problem.

I was not able to find her in the directory.

I must have looked in the wrong place or something.

Can anyone help me get in contact with her? Thanks!

My daughter has been doing much better this weekend.

We've been pushing fluids constantly, poor thing!

My daughter has had that, as well. Either retention, or going every five minutes for three hours straight.

Irritable Bladder.

Poor baby. Yes, take everyone's advice, if she is in pain and can't go, she will need relief. You're a good mom.
