The further along I travel down the LD & Babs path, the more pain I experience...but the less traditional meds seem to help. I can't take anything that is Codine based (and I really don't want to). Soon I will be on 8 different meds, not including supplements!
It takes at least 800mg of Ibup. to get rid of a bad headache (if it's not horrible , I ignore it as much as possible). But nothing seems to help really with hip, back, knee and neck pain. I take hot baths and use a hot water-bottle when I am feeling my worst. I also take Flexeril and Klonopin, but only at night (it also helps me sleep).

There are different causes of pain and treatment needs to be specific for the type of pain.
Nerve pain is different than muscle pain which is different than pain from inflammation which is different than pain from blood flow problems (frequent cause of migraine and headache pain).
I think I read recently that Dr Fallon at Columbia said that SPECT or PET scans (I forget which) showed that Lyme patients percieve pain differently than other people.
The reason that joint pain is so difficult to treat is that it is hard to increase circulation to that area which is needed for healing. The same is true for back pain -- have to get the pain killer to the site and also remove toxins created by inflammation.
Hubby has been very lucky that pain is not one of his major symptoms.
You might want to repost your question in several parts. Ask what is best for back pain or for hip pain and you might get more specific help.
As a general anti-inflammatory you could try something simple like ginger tea or turmeric. Need to remember that ginger will thin your blood slightly and turmeric will increase gallbladder function.

EWT,
How much Flexeril do you take and do you take it every night? I didn't get pain relief from it until I got to 20mg. It worked best at 30mg a night.
Then I used Vicodin for break through pain when needed.

I can't take anything remotely related to Codeine, either.....
I seem to tolerate Darvocet well (Darvon + Tylenol, I think), but no other narcotics except....
I can take small (25 mg.) doses of Demerol - I just have to take a dose every couple of hours.
Neurontin is the only thing that works for nerve/spinal pain (not a narcotic).....
I also like piroxicam as an NSAID for inflammation....
Haven't had to take any of these for awhile but they are always on "stand-by".
