Good afternoon all,
Do any of you know of a high quality probiotic that doesn't have to live in the fridge?
I keep forgetting to take my Theralac...out of sight...out of mind.
Thanks in advance! Melanie

Hi Melanie- My probiotic has to live in the fridge,-but I was told that my daily dose doesn't necessarily have to- In other words, if I am not going to be home at the time I am scheduled to take it- I put one dose in another empty pill container and put it in my purse or thermal lunch box.
Also-to help me remember if and when i took a certain med I made up a med chart which I check off when i take the med. It has helped me to establish a routine.
I take it twice a day- and my second dose is at bedtime- on an empty stomach-so it is part of my bedtime routine.
I, too, have concluded that the best product is the one you take. HA!
I do the PB8 I take 2 or 3 first thing in the am and last thing at night.....but it is the refrigerated kind.
LLMD said they were the better one to go with.
I was at GNC and the owner suggestion I use her probiotics. She had some good points.
But, It was not refrigerated and I know nothing about GNC products.
It would be nice to have a probiotic that doesn't need refrigerating when we travel or you can take to work, etc.
I'll keep a watch on this thread and see what others have experienced.

My son's first llmd recommended acidolphilus pearls (Enzymatic) which we get at Whole Foods. They are refrigerated there but do not have to be. Both sons also takes florastor which doesn't need to be refrigerated. The combo was recommended.
I just purchased Essential Formulas Dr. Ohhira's probiotics (recommended on lymenet) & it does not need to be refrigerated.
I haven't posted much but still have been reading....I hope you are having some better days.

In my experience, kefir (from the live grains ONLY) far surpasses all else. (and I used to buy all the top brands)
I stopped buying probiotics alltogether, as we have felt profound impact once taking kefir. We all, with different cases and treatment, have benefitted greatly from this live pribiotic.
The price is right, just the cost of organic milk.
It sits out on the counter to culture, not in the fridge. You do need a fridge to keep it cold in to drink later and to halt the culturing. Tho, it origionated back before they had refridgeration, and was kept in leather pouches on the backs of horses and such... it tastes better cold.
if it is too much to learn to make right now (tho the process is incredibly easy, it's still a new thing to learn)..
hold on to this site if you are ever interested in making it.

We use GI-PRO from Mannatech. It needs to be refrigerated after the bottle is open.
But what live food doesn't need refrigeration to preserve it's live? Only "dead" food can be left on the shelf.
Probiotics are microscoptic life forms. The idea is to keep them alive so they can break down food and process waste in the digestive system and boost the health of the immune system.

I use a shelf stable Probiotic - SBS(Science Based Supplements) Suprema Dophilus.
I haven't found it anywhere but in a local discount vitamin chain. It seems to be their store brand. (I haven't been able to weasle the name of the product this is an alternate label for.) But their price is very cheap comparitively.
I alternate this with JarroDophilus + FOS which does need refridgeration but the FOS keeps the probiotics alive longer, as they have something to eat and can therefore be left out of refridgeration for a few hours. So even with these I'll sometimes take a couple with me if I'm going to be out for a while.
I'm still looking for the comparable brand as the SBS one on the internet. I'll let you know if I find it.

The mercola kefir (Body ecology) does not last foever. It has limited life. Real kefir can be used over and over endlessly. It even multiplies and cn be shared.
Not say the Mercola stuff is not good or bad just that it could get $$.
I think the live grains are best. Its been done this way for thousands of years.

If you go the group where they discuss making kefir, there are tons of people willing to share their grains. It usually runs you ab out $10, and this can last forever, and then you will also have grains to share with others. I tried the other way, but it got costly and didn't have the real grains in it.
Dom is a big kefir guy. Do a search for "DOM Kefir" and you will find his website (Mo's link above). He has told me that we actually have to eat some of the grains to get the full probiotic benefits from kefir. I am just now trying to get more info on this, and am going to order some grains from him with his book. I already have grains from a local person and have started making my own, but I am trying get deeper into it. There are different types, too. I am curious about the water kefir.
For now, I am culturing mine with goat milk as I don't think dairy is so great for us (or me). It has a very strong but enjoyable flavor.
Good luck! We can all share our grains when they start to take over our house!
