Is 100mg twice a day not strong enough? I heard it won't work. Any opinions?

It may not work. Good dose is 400 or more a day. I took up to 800 mg per day.

Hi! The brand name called DORYX is one of the more potent oral forms of doxy. Many will start with Doryx 300 or 400mg a day, then check blood levels, if low then increase the dose. Continue to increase or alter the dosing schedule until blood levels are adequate, as the antibiotic will not work in full effect unless the concentration is high enough. By the way, avoid the sun on Doxy!!!!

I started on 100mg 3 times a day and I'm still on antibiotics 2 years later- Not to scare you, but I think it's important to be quite aggressive with it at first ( just my opinion- I'm no doc!)
Another word of advice...no alcohol ( or extremely limited...one drink a month for example or less)
It's not only that alcohol affects the absorption of antibiotics...it's that the lyme love the carbs in it..it affects your deep sleep which you so badly need when you're fighting lyme..and that it stresses your liver more than need be-
Just thought that I'd throw that in there as not being as strict on this issue as I could have been, has impeded the speed of my recovery
Best Health, Sarah ( Just my opinion, I'm no Doc!)

Hi All
Higher dose is Much better--
200mg a day is known as the- Standard Dose--
The Standard Dose of doxi will kill many germs -- Not Lyme--
Lyme is a Real tuff bug--very hard to kill- and takes Extended treatment for sucssess --
Dont be scaired of antibiotics- No reason -
read med directions carefully--
dont miss doses -- it is very important to take at correct time--
Spend some time reading --Dr. B info is a real good place to start-- Jay--

I haven't had any alcohol for over a month since I started doxy 200mg 2xs/day.
Just today I bought a bottle of wine to take about 1/2 juice glass when I wake up at 3:00, 4:00 or 5:00am to put me back to sleep quickly.
I take the doxy about 7:30 - 8:30 pm.
Is this a bad idea?
Don't know if I should uncork it...

You might be better off using one of the new sleeping pills or a herbal sleeping aid to help you get to sleep. Sleep distruption is an issue for so many of us, perhaps some other suggestions will come along-
Definitely the alcohol affects one's quality of sleep- Dr B says that no alcohol, strict adherence to treatment, and the ability to nap when one is tired/get quality sleep is all crucial to getting better ( not his words- but the jist of what I've read from him...)
Perhaps some chamomile tea? ( hard to beat a nice Pinot Noir!!- personally can't wait to get to the point where I can have wine again!!)
Best health Sarah ( I'm no Doc- just my opinion)

It wasn't a high enough dose for me. I was on 100mgs twice a day for 4 months before getting to a LLMD. I got sicker and sicker. I knew the dose was too low but my PCP would not increase it.
My LLMD switched me to high dose tetracycline and my brain fog cleared in a matter of days. I started to get better. hats
