I just wanted to check in to see if anyone else has had experience on Bicillin L-A.
I've only been on antibiotics since August starting with about 5 weeks of Doxycycline from a tick bite most likely in June or July.
After the Doxy, I was on 100mg of Minocycline for about two weeks. I herxing pretty hard every day on just the Minocycline. I started seeing a new LLMD and he told me he thought the bacteria might change form -- so he added two shots of Bicillin L-A at 2.4 million units per shot in addition to the Minocycline.
My herxing pattern really changed with the Bicillin. The second night after my first shot, I tossed and turned all night with a lot of throbbing sensations and pain. It was the worst.
The herxing went away until the second night after my second shot. Similar throbbing sensations came back but not nearly as intense. This was the last time I really herxed.
I'm starting my third week of the shots and I'm not herxing at all any more -- from either the Minocycline or the Bicillin.
I want to think that maybe a lot of the populations were killed off with the shots but know that might be wishful thinking -- considering how hard I was herxing on the Minocycline. Also, my symptoms persist -- a lot of joint clicking and popping, dizziness, the neck pain, insomnia, and a lot pressure in head.
I know everybody's reaction is different but just curious to know what others have experienced on Bicillin. I see my LLMD again next week and will ask about changing my antibiotics.
Thanks in advance.

John, how often are you getting the Bicillin? You said two, is that two per week. If so, that is a pretty good sized dose. Personally, I wouldn't worry about not herxing or the continuation of symptoms at thie point. Not everyone herxes and, even at your dose, Bicillin is a relatively low-dose antibiotic. The key to its effectiveness may lie in that is slow releasing and therefore provides constant coverage. Also, many have reported slow, but steady and sustained, improvement on Bicillin. Certainly, that was the case with me.

I was on bicillin LA shots for six full months. I did two shots a week at a dose of 2.4million units each. So I received 4.8million units a week. It was the largest dose that my Lyme nurse ever did.
I was also on Mepron/Azithromyacin at the same time. I felt my best while on all three of these drugs. I did however choose to start Rocephin four months ago as I was becoming impatient with lingering neuro symptoms.
My plan is one year Rocephin IV and another six full months on the bicillin at the same dose.
During the time I was on the three medications I herxed but nothing that kept me from going out and being at the gym four days a week.

Thanks for the insight. I am doing 2.4 million units twice per week -- for a total of 4.8 million units a week. It's good to know that it's worked out for others.

Before you give up on it, research what others here have written about Bicillin. Use the search function at the top of teh page. For many, it has been THE most effective drug. My suggestion is not to give up on it quickly. Give it six months.

The first time I was on Bicillin it was 1.2's 3 times a week. Also with Zith and Flagyl. I did not herx alot then, but just had steady, slow improvement of symptoms.
I am on the same meds again right now (after a relapse and IV ABX), and I think I have had some herxing this time. It is hard to tell if it is herxing or if it is symptoms returning because of stopping the IV ABX. Kinda confusing. The symptoms wax and wane, but they did that pre-treatment, so....
Anyway - I agree with the previous poster. Bicillin is a good thing. Give it a good try. You will most likely see results.
