OK, so I have my kit and the doctor filled out the paperwork for my 8yo daughter's testing. (if she's positive, that'll be three of four of us in our home [shake] ) We'll pay the $565 out of pocket and then get reimbursed for the testing, but how do we handle the local lab that does the draw?

Do they submit it directly to our insurance? Should I be sure to go to an in-network lab? Do I pay THEM out of pocket also and then try for reimbursement? Do I let them do the draw and then pack it up and ship it myself?

I don't want to screw this up, so anyone with experience, please help! [confused]

Just did this recently,so here goes.

We had another lab work prescription from the doc---a basic CBC, I think.
We took CBC and the Igenex paperwork and collection tube from the kit to the lab. We asked them if they would do an extra draw to fill up the Igenex tube. We had them spin the blood for something like 30 minutes (although out doc said it wasn't absolutely necessary)

We then packed the tube in the FedEx kit provided by Igenex and mailed it ourselves. We had the blood drawn and sent on a Tues. to avoid an over weekend sit.

In about 2 1/2 weeks we received the receipt from Igenex for the tests and I then filed those with my insurance plan. I would make sure the lab was in your plan so you won't have to pay out of pocket for the blood draw.

WHen I first tried to have the blood draw done in Ohio I could not find a lab that would do it. My family MD would not do it, none of the labs I had gone to for any blood work within my insurance network would do it. I called every lab and every hospital or walk in clinic, no deal.

When I went to visit family in CA I went to the lab my mother in law goes to and the tech there drew my blood, spun it down and gave it to me and refused to take any money. I brought her some chocolates and a plant [Smile]

I recently had a CD57 done at labcorp and they charged me for their test and drew a Babs vial for Igenex for free. They put it in the Fed Ex bag and sent it off with their pick up.

Different labs will do it differently. The Igenex kit has directions and a prepaid Fed Ex bag so it should be easy unless you live in NE Ohio [Smile]

Lucy, I enjoyed your 2 stories of them doing the draw FREE!

My clinic did the draws and they shipped it out per IGENEX instructions. They however lost the results when they were returned.

So please highlight on your IGX form the FAX no. asking them to fax and snail mail a paper copy so if one is lost; you have the other. Mine were lost between 4-5 wks. with my pursuing this over & over.

Make sure the MD showed the DIAGNOSIS code on it; mine put it on the clinic's form; blood tech did NOT put it on IGX for m.

Real hassle for me; 6 weeks later all my forms sent for reimbursement were returned since MD didn't put code on & clinic woman would not do this. Bettyg [Big Grin]

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll call around and see what the labs say. Glad you mentioned the spinning for 30 minutes. I'll have to read those sheets really carefully to be sure it gets done correctly.
