i need your help as i'm not thinking too clearly right now. here is the situation. as you know i've been on cipro for over 2 months. my doc did not give me anything for yeast and ole stupid me didn't research on it so i keep eating like normal. i'm a major sugar freak and junk food addict, so yep, i got a massive systemic yeast infection.

doc stops antibiotic but doesn't give me anything for yeast.

so for two weeks i've been off and the symptoms are bad. itching ears, weak, can't think, major diahhrea, you name it i have it.

i ordered threelac and started that last week, 3 times a day for the yeast. at first no symptoms, in fact i even felt pretty good, then i start spiraling downward. then my throat started hurting and it just kept getting worse and worse.

then the white film on tongue and throat got really bad. then the blisters and dark red and swelling, then horrible sharp stabbing pains in my throat and i couldn't swallow, fever, weaknesss, and confusion.

i hightail it to my primary and then take me in immediately. i have a massive strep infection big time.

here's my problem. he wants to put me on antibiotics (ceftin) for 2 weeks, but he is giving me nizoral and said to start the nizoral after, i repeat, after i finish the antibiotic.

i do feel bad, really bad, can't think clearly, major muscle pain. scared half out of my mind. if i take the antibiotic, my yeast will get worse won't it?

i know the antibiotic will help the lyme but it will make the yeast worse. i know, i know, i'm trying to figure this out. she says the yeast is worse than the lyme right now, so do i treat the strep and say the hell with the yeast?

so here are my questions.

do i fill the antibiotic?
do i continue the threelac?
do i stop the threelac and start the nizoral at once or do what he says and take the antibiotic and then the nizoral after the 2 weeks?

what about my yeast infection? can i take the nizoral and ceftin together?

i'm confused. i don't know what to do............

I'm not sure but I think ABX treats strep and strep trumps all.

I would take ABX + Threelac (at least 2 hrs apart or they just fight each other). Hopefully the Threelac will keep the yeast down a bit until you can treat it, after the strep.

I'm not a medical professional, but I believe untreated Strep can be very, very dangerous.

Also get plenty of rest, fluids and lots of chicken soup ( at least the broth, if you can't get the rest down)!

I hope you feel better soon! [Smile]
I'm so sorry you're going through this. [Frown]

Geniveve,
do i fill the antibiotic? Yes!

do i continue the threelac? Yes, just time it a few hours away from the antibiotic.

do i stop the threelac and start the nizoral at once or do what he says and take the antibiotic and then the nizoral after the 2 weeks?

IMHO, the strep infection is more important than the yeast. Get going on the antibiotic. Then treat the yeast.

what about my yeast infection? can i take the nizoral and ceftin together?

You could probably take them together. But then you will have a double whammy herx from the Lyme and the yeast. I am not sure I would want to do that. Just take the antibiotic and see how you feel for a few days. But take care of the strep ASAP!

Hope you are feeling better soon,
Karen

You need the antibiotic. Strep can be beat and cured without drugs, I did it last year, but not if your immune system is a mess and already comprimised. If you don't treat the strep since your body is already a mess you will increase your risk of heart valve dammage, Rheumatic Fever, and Scarlet Fever...all 3 of which are horrible and complications of a poorly treated strep infection.

My advice-take the ABX. Ask your doc why you have to wait to take the anti-fungal, and get probiotics and water in your mouth as much as possible.

I will also recommend you start taking liquid goldenseal and liquid echinecea(sp?) with large dose Vit C-this is how I beat the strep without ABX-but it will help you in your situation since all of thsoe items are big immune system boosters-and Goldenseal is a powerful antibiotic and anti inflammatory.

Hi Geniveve

Yes! start the abx for strep. Strep is very serious if left untreated.

make sure to take your pro-biotics spaced at least 2 hours apart form the abx.

nizoral is hard on the liver & so are the abx

Maybe that's why he wanted you to take the abx first & knock out the strep & then start the nizoral.

In the mean time can do what lymetoo suggested & starve the yeast out.

Ditto on what the rest have said-
rest
Eat lots of chicken broth
& drink tons of water.

Just be careful when you take any supps or herbs too close to your abx that they don't diminish
the effects of the abx.

You have to concentrate on knocking the strep out at all costs. If you don't it can lead to heart damage.

Hang in there & feel better soon [group hug]

This is not medical advice, just my personal opinion

geniveve,

I have this situation periodically. Just last month I started getting strep throat. I did the zinc, echinachea, goldenseal, vit. C...

I was sick the entire month of Aug. until I went on Factive, a broad spectrum ATB for 5 days. The nasty strep went away, but yes, the yeast load was greater and I've been fighting it ever since...I have taken Diflucan for several months. Can't seem to get off it. In fact, I got the strep when I tried to stop diflucan.

But Strep can cause damage to your body.

If I had to do it over, I would take the ATB for strep right away with my usual stuff for yeast...diflucan, nystatin, rife, garlic, theralac...

I have felt very frustrated about the yeast and strep "catch 22" also. I'm sorry you're going through it.

It will pass.

Geniveve,
Yes the strep trumps all. Untreated it can lead to heart conditions (rheumatic fever) and even kidney problems.

There is a homeopathic called pleo not that treats strep fairly well. I'm not too far from you so pm me if you would like to know where to get it. I'm actually taking some now for a sinus infection.

Also, I read your post about the laser treatments. I had a session for strep along with the pleo not and did not need antibiotics. I wouln't recommend not taking antibiotics, but the laser treatment is an option. It is hard to understand, but does work for acute problems such as strep infection.
take care

Also. While you are on abx, do the NO CARB thing. It will be tough, but you will thank us later.

You can add olive oil and butter to your food to up calories. Eat lots of green vegtables and a normal amount or slightly more protein. This will change the ph in your system helping to kill yeast.

Drink lots of clean water with a little lemon juice to help flush toxins from yeast and dead strep out.

I agree with everyone treat the strep and worry about the affects of yeast later.

sugar and carbs feed the yeast and the bacteria, so do a low carb...and NO sugar as sugar also supresses your immune system.

I also read, and i think there are posts about this on this site that yeast and strep go together, so maybe when you get rid of the strep the yeast might die down some.

Just do everything possible to support your body and give it what it needs. Clean diet, lots of rest, chicken soup(homemade if you can).

hang in there

Get on something strong for the strep pronto! Borrelia feed off of strep. I was bitten in 1987 and didn't get really ill until 1993 when I contracted strep throat repeatedly during the course of the summer. Take care of it right away and ensure whatever you take wipes out the infection right away. I was given penicillin twice and the infection came back within a few days of stopping the abx.

Take the Ceftin and ask for some Diflucan to go with it.

Did the doctor do a culture for strep, or did he just LOOK at your throat and pronounce it strep?

Because a really bad case of yeast/thrush can look exactly like strep.

To a doctor unaccustomed to seeing such things in people who do high dose abx without proper diet and proper probiotics, it's likely to be quite shocking, and I can imagine them pronouncing it strep without first culturing it.

In any event, if it ISN'T strep, but rather a bad case of yeast, then abx isn't going to kill it -- just make it worse.

If the doctor DID do a culture and it IS strep, then take your antibiotics, and two hours later take THERALAC. I repeat, THERALAC. NOT Threelac, which is different. Also, toss in sugar free yogurt and any other probiotic you can get your hands on and have it two hours away from meds. At night, scrape your tongue and rinse your mouth with the contents of a probiotic pill pulled apart and dissolved in water, so that good bacteria can repopulate.

Hopefully this will turn the tide for you really fast, like in a couple of days.

As others have said, avoid sugar and carbs like the plague. And take a Theralac every night at bedtime if that's two hours from your last abx, and you won't be in a pickle again. It's super stuff.

Wishing you better times -- I've been CLOSE to where you are and it's pretty miserable!

[kiss]

Michelle
