I'm not sure why it isn't working for you, perhaps it's the way in which you apply it? Here is a link on the proper way to apply the cream, etc.

Are you leaving a thick covering of it on for at least an hour before you need to change the needle? Also covering the Emla with a clear occlusive bandage is important too.

I use the Emla cream for my port, it helps alot. You need to cover the cream with a Tegaderm bandage for about 1hr before access in the port. Hope this helps because it is NO fun without the Emla cream
