I finished 8 weeks of Rocephin 5 weeks ago and felt great. Then about 3 weeks ago I noticed my hands and feet were more swollen than usual (they have been swollen off and on during my illness).
In the past week the swelling has become increasingly worse each day. One doc says it's the tiny dose of prednisone I'm still taking. The next doc says that would work the opposite and it's probably my kidneys (which have always checked out fine during the IV).
So, I'm posing this question to Lymies to offer any suggestions! I see a third doc today and the second doc next week. I want to be as prepared as possible before talking to them.
TIA, Karen

Karen,
WHY OH WHY are you taking ANY prednisone?
That is one of the worst steroids I have ever run accross...even for people that don't have lyme disease.
And especially terrible for people that do have lyme.
You don't mention any fever or reddness with the swelling otherwise I would suggest cellulitis...
cuz I contracted that in between abx treatments... Just in my legs....
Stop the prednisone....unles you're nuts...IMHO!
The ducks know what it's supposed to do(anti-inflammatory/immunosupressant)so the one duck was right about is supposedly keeping that from happening.... But they don't know what ELSE it does in the body!
Especially a body that has lyme disease!

I know what you mean about the prednisone. I specifically asked the LLMD and he WANTED me to stay on it because it was such a small amount (10 mg). The body naturally produces 7.5 mg daily unless you are swallowing it - thenthe body stops producing it.
Please be very careful when you tell someone to stop taking prednisone!! IT's very important to wean off of it slowly because it can produce rebound effects and throw hormones totally out of whack. Your body has to begin producing it again before stopping completely.
I'm now down to 2.5 mg which is nearly insignificant. My plan is to be off it entirely within the next 2 or 3 weeks.
It still doesn't explain the swelling...and there is no redness, fever or other telltale signs...just alot of fluid. Even my newly purchased "fat shoes" are leaving marks on my feet. And it's always worse in the morning which the duck said is opposite of what should occur...but he agrees that my body defies the "rules".
