Is it possible that you are in your four week cycle? That could be why you got worse.

Dr. B mentioned at the ILADS meeting that he tries not to take a patient off an abx combo until they have been on it for 3 months, unless there is a bad reaction.

doc dave -- sorry to hear that you are relapsing. Must be the season, this has been a very rough week for me too!

Two steps forward, two steps back. I added zith for a couple of days and had to stop, it is too hard right now for my system.

what does your llmd say? Mine usually says something similar to what aniek reports above -- unless you are really regressing, then "stay the course" for now. There is another thread here about plaquenil, and it seems that several folks have unpleasant effects from that.

feel better! [Smile]

see lit. on different plant and animal,multi-enzyme formulations for different "phases" of diseases, and in combination with abx.

enzymes can potentiate the activity of abx, and other meds, as well, by order(s) of magnitude.

paradoxically, while theres stuff on bromelain and abx, on medline, for example, bromelain is also associated with worsining of herpetic infection(s). multiple edged sword here.

check lit on:
nattokinase
wobenzym
rutozym
lumbrokinase
pancreatin-- but, i think, bromelain needed to have it cross g.i. lining to get to the blood stream.

serratiopeptidase--lots of lit. this w/rt ear nose and throat conditions, i think inclu. dental applications. see medline. pneumonitis hazard.

for starters on abstracts, see http://www.mucos.de
several languages here.

http://www.thorne.com good material on bromelain and abx. i think here it says, bromelain < 500mg for X days has anti-inflamm. effect.
bromelain >= 500mg. for X days will eventually trigger increased production of tnf-a. but verify.

this relapse effect could be imm. syst. kicking in, and kicking in to aggressively. vit. D3 may give temporary decrease in phagocytic aggression(?),too much vit.D3 for too long = set up for a listeria infection.

i got 70-80% relief from joint inflamm. with vit.d3 X 400 i.u. with 30mg. Calcium, the latter which i didn't want but which came with the bottle. i forgot how many caps i took, but, initially, at most, 3caps/day, then increased to 4caps. for one week. nothing else taken.

on vit. E:

one or more, either of the tocopherols,or the tocotrienols, is supposed to give some kind of pain relief.

the late carlton fredricks once quoted a study stating that vit. E, quieted the anxiety impulse from the diencephalon to the cortex.
which of the isomers responsible was not mentioned.

on avg., vitamin e >= 8OO i.u./day is supposed to cause herpetic problem of some kind(s).

The biaxin/plaquenil combination was widely used for Lyme before ketek (telithromycin) came along as the most advanced macrolide. If you take this drug at 400mg twice per day, instead of the prescribed 800mg once per day, it is much more tolerable.

You can take liver support supplements such as milk thistle, schizandra, N-acetyl choline, and phosphatidylcholine.

I took plaquenil for two years, and agree that it sucked. I also took zithromax, which was okay, and now take ketek and omnicef to stay in remission.

I took the Biaxin/Plaquenil mix too. Had some relief and improvement after 5-6 months.

I would have periods of herx.
You could be going through that cycle.
