this past month has been very hard on me..as you have read before of the other posts that I had taken atremisinin 700mg in three days with cod liver oil...I am wondering if the cod liver oil made it more potent for me...has anyone else done the cod liver thing...anyway I went to dr zang in nyc to discuss the wiered symtoms that I have been having..he said I took to much for my load and will have a hard time of it untill the body compensates for the die off..he said the wierd sensations and breathing problems and hyper eye to sound are all herx related and that I will have to go backwords thru all symptoms...I hope he is right..I feel like i did major damage but i had alot of trouble before I did art...so he has me on artemesia annau that he formulates...he also uses herb to control the herx...so we will see...right now I get so worryed and a feeling of anxiety takes over I cant sit down as my whole body feels like vibrating..there is a wave of weird feeling that make me think I am in trouble..hope this all stops..as you may not know I have nervous system involvment and severe hypoperfusion in the brain..i have struggled with brain stem reactions before and have stopped breathing before when they did not believe I had lyme..the breathing stopped in the night three times..this is when I was untreated...I was in the hospital 2 times this week over night...one was for them to watch me sleep and make sure I did not stop breathing in my sleep....the other for severe panic feelings of that I damaged my body on low dose of art...so I am still here..

I took fish oil and Faxseed oil with Art. and found they greatly enhance the effects of Art, making me more tired. Since Art. is fat-soluble, oil will increase its bio-availability. Now I reduced Artemether dosage from 3X2X50 mg to 3X50mg daily from F-M, still feel its effects. I'll keep taking it, believing that this wide-spectrum antibiotics would do some good for Lyme and co-infections.

Sodium butyrate might also enhance the bio-availability of Art. http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=043204#000000

I have yet to try it.

In my experience, another thing that would affect the effects of Art is Iron. I suspect that supplementing Iron would reduce the severity of the tiredness caused by Art. Art would reduce the levels of Iron in the body and cause symptoms of tiredness, an obvious symptom of insufficient Oxigen supply.

Art. annua is much less potent than Artemisinin or Artemether, and should be well-tolerated. I took 2 Tsp daily without any adverse effects, and no obvious improvement either.

I have no idea what it might be like to go through the mepron, zith, arteminisin protocol that you are on. From reading others posts here it seems that it is quite an intense treatment for babesia.

I just know that when I took arteminisin alone, at a high dose (per a recommendation from Dr. K's guidelines), it caused horrible headaches and slurring speech, loss of memory, etc. All of these things reverted to normal except still dealing with a little bit of short-term memory loss. I expect that to normalize as every week it seems a little better.

This is only my own experience, but I am hoping that it will be yours also. I have heard that the loose herbs are easier to tolerate. I have chosen a different protocol, but may go back later and use the loose herbs, if it seems necessary. For now, I am on a different protocol entirely.

Take care,

Claire

The turtle wins the race. Don't try to run so fast that you break your leg, setting yourself back even farther.

Make sense? [Smile]

I'm assuming they checked you for sleep apnea since the episodes of stopping breathing can be cause by that. I knew I had apnea years before I knew I had Lyme (wish I knew then what I know now). Anyway, without a CPAP to keep the airway open, my oxygen dropped to 58%. Since you were hospitalized, like I said, I'd like to assume you were check for that; but I've learned to assume nothing.

Good luck! Sounds like you know more about your disease than I do.

Eric,

It was not too long ago when I made that horrible mistake of taking too much arteminisin. I had no idea that the amount was too high for me. It was higher than your dose... I think about 600 mg. Beginners mistake. I only took that dose for one day, and the day prior it was about 200 mg. Two days total, I think.

I took it in September and now, in late November, I feel almost normal, though still dealing with other issues. I have changed protocols.

Many people were kind enough on this forum to point out my mistake.

I really believe also, that Lymetoo's philosophy about the tortoise and the hare is the best.

And stay close to your doctor... you have been going through some real challenges.

Eric, I've been following your posts. Glad to see you ARE alive!

I took about 1200mg a day of artemisinin. Also a mistake. I started slow, I could tolerate it well in lower doses, but when I ramped up, I could tolerate it for a while until I got an air hunger attack.

I think it is a harsh stuff. I tolerate better the whole herb instead.

I didn't get any damage from it, but I never touched artemisinin alone since I went to emergency. I was taking level 2 of andrographis together, this was also a mistake. Too many killings, it can ONLY do bad things as our bodies cannot cleanse.

Hope you get out of this without damage. Do lots of cleansing. If I were you I would try chlorella (loads), lemon juice, Omega 3, milk thistle, dandelion, minerals and be away from artemisinin for while.

Eric-
I have the shakiness through my entire body. For now the doc gave me some Lorazepam to slow downt he nervous reaction. Maybe takes the edge off.

I was in the hospital last week because I couldn't sleep for 2 days because I felt I couldn't breath, kept jumping up. Then lost bladder control. Was having seizures.

I feel awful. Feel like I am not going to make it this time. I have pain, and tremors everywhere and by chest feels tight. I have the tachycardia going on and the orthostatic BP.

Was on Mepron/Zithro and switched to Resveratol, Red Root, Artemisin, Milk Thistle, Sarsparilla. Now on Biaxin/Hyrochloroquinine, L-Theanine, Lorezapam and Ambien when needed (note don't take Ambien and Lorezapam at the same time.

I plan on going to IV antibiotics soon (next week).

Funny but sad story - the 'emergency neuro' , whom I saw when I got out of the hospital because mine was not availalbe, said: You complained about these symptoms 10 years ago when you saw Dr. X and you are still alive, so you are wasting my time." Moron

Eric,

Yes. That was 800 mg in two days. And I did survive it, but again, never would I recommend it.

People taking arteminisin need to be very careful finding the dose that is right for them, and go very slowly with it.
