I'm on Rifampin + Zith for suspected Bartonella coinfection. Doxy getting thrown into the mix fairly soon to address Borrelia.
I'm just wondering about the timing of Rifampin doses. Since it has such a short half life (between 2 and 4 hours, depending on other things), is it better to take divided doses? Or are daily "pulses" the object of the exercise?
I don't see how keeping a fairly constant level of Rifampin going is much of a possibility with such a short halflife. I have 150mg capsules, and I'm currently on 300mg/day, going up to 600mg/day next week. So at best I can only take it four times a day.
Anyone got any Rifampin experiences to share?
Thanks
P

My son and I both just started Rifamin last week. Because he is a child and of course weighs less then I his dosage is half of mine. For the first week I took 300 mg and he took 150 mg at bedtime (at least two hours after last eating). AFter the first week, I am now taking 600 mg (2 300 mg pills) at bedtime. My son is taking 300 mg (2 150mg pills) at bedtime.
Interesting thing, I had some heal pain while walking in the store two days in a row. Went away once I was off my feet. Strange since I'd never had this problem before. I didn't mention it to anyone until my son came home (day after my pain) from school with an injured foot (heel pain). Not sure if this means we are herxing, if its the medicine or if its just a fluke thing.
