If you missed a dose of Effexor-XR, did bad things happen to you?

I'm trying to figure out if the timing of my headaches and neuro problems is co-incidental or related to a med mess-up.

The other possibility is that it's about 1 week after end of Zith/Mepron.

My daughter had to get off Effexor. It really helped her for about a year, then it's effectiveness wore off. She started feeling suicidal. I think missing a dose of any of those drugs give you an immediate withdrawl. You don't get much of a grace period.

She did well on Cymbalta and Wellbutrin. We still haven't weaned totally off the Cymbalta.

Glad you are aware, and call your doctor if you think it has stopped working for you.

Usually missing only one dose of an antidepressant isn't that big a deal. However, Effexor is known for being a strange drug.

I had real problems with it and one of my docs at the time said she was thrilled when I was off it. I have friends who have used it without problems.

I'd say check with the doc who prescribed it.

Thanks guys,

I think it's just Lyme. Strange co-incidence, though, because it seems to have happened more than once. Maybe missing the dose annoys the spirochetes somehow.

Maybe it triggers a flare.

I tried going off Effexor a couple weeks ago and found out quick how different it is from other anti-depressants I've taken, and quit, in the past.

It was kinda nice to come back to the real world again but I had TERRIBLE migraines and was lucky enough to find info online to help me out. If you're having headaches trying to go off Effexor, try to get a Rx for Prozac or some other AD so you can transition without the headaches.

Then hopefully, we'll be able to withdraw from Prozac eventually without the wicked headaches caused by Effexor withdrawal. I just happened to have a partial bottle of Prozac from a couple years ago but I plan to get a new Rx from my doc this week.

Then I'll decide when and if I can go off Prozac. The only problem I had in the past when I withdrew from other AD's was walking out on decent jobs because I didn't have the patience to deal with the stress of rude and heartless people.

Now I'm on SSD so that won't be a problem but if I end up losing all patience without the Prozac, I might have to keep taking it or I'll drive my fiance' crazy!

It's so strange but I'm always amazed how NICE it is to be able to CRY and show emotions when I'm not taking those stupid drugs. I wish I'd never been prescribed them in the first place, about 13 years ago. Good luck!

Thanks for the info Dianne!

So it is the stupid Effexor. I thought it seemed like too much coincidence when it happened more than once.

Maybe it's because it acts on norepinephrin as well as seratonin?

Maybe I should try Holy Basil Extract and the other herb I have to remember. That's what I used to get off Zoloft several years ago.

I know exactly what you're talking about. On Zoloft I felt like a "Stepford Wife" it was just too wierd!

Prozac and Paxil sent me to the psych hospital. I was planning my demise and called everyone I knew to tell me to stop.

Luckily, they listened and took me to the hospital.

This was five years ago. I remember asking God to give me one reason to stay alive.

My daughter's name came to my mind. Now I know why I'm here, to help her with this horrific disease. And my experience helped her accept the psych problems this disease causes.

If one medication doesn't work, there are plenty of others. Don't give up. You are important.

absolutely, it's the effexor. the withdrawal from this drug is HORRIBLE, and effexor has a really short half life so the symptoms set in right after the missed dose.
