I developed this new symptom and I have no idea if it could be related to Lyme or if it has nothing to do with it. I hear and feel a strong thumping muffled sound in my left ear that, from time to time, stretches to the right ear. it feels like the back of my brain is packed in cotton. Nothing seems to make it go away and I wonder if it is a nerve inflammation... Any idea?

Inflammation is a good guess.

I have this, and terrible screetching, ringing, hissing, even musical note noises. And pain. My thought is that it's cranial nerve involvement and maybe swelling in the meninges (the covering of the spinal cord and brain.)

Also, partly it could be blood rushing through vessels, which could also come from inflammation.

My ear thumps more when I have pain in my tooth. I'd prefer to stay in denial about the possibility of having to remove the tooth that has twice had a root canal, though. Could you be having a migrating infection?

Its funny, because I forgot about this until you mentioned it. I had that thumping / fluttering in my ear for a few weeks. It went away about 5 months ago and hasn't returned.

I had similar symptoms the winter before last - the sounds rotated between what sounded like a lawn mower, a helicopter, a DC-3, and a gas-powered generator, along with a fluctuating hearing loss. The sounds were so loud that I couldn't even hear myself talk. It was diagnosed as probable Meniere's Disease, which I'm sure was just another manifestation of my Lyme Disease. My ENT put me on a sodium-restricted diet (1500-2000 mg. a day, which isn't too hard to do), along with a mild diuretic. So far it's been working. It might be worth a try for you.

I've had thumping in my left ear on and off for months now. I think it is a symptom of the Lyme.
