I have no swelling. I do have pressure in my knees and major muscle aches. Off and on ill have hand pain, shin pain, hip pain, knee pressure but mostly its a all over tenderness throughout my body, even my spine. I also have problems like i feel im spinning all the time, even as i sit(and no i havent started treatment yet so its not a herx).
For instance ive had non stop dizzyness and head pressure and balance problems going on 4 days straight. When im this bad i get serious motion sickness being in a car and bouts of general anxiety and tremors.
I am igenex positive, but dont have arthritis per say. Does this seem normal?

First I am just a lyme patient
If you tested positive and you have symptoms... you have lyme.
If you mean can you have lyme without the damage that is associated with non lyme arthritis
well i have had joint pain for ages and I dont have damage...
When you look at my x rays you dont see arthritis.
And you can have lyme and present with any of the possible symptoms...some people are lucky and never have a problem with there joints.

Hi,
There are many folks with lyme who do not have arthritis, so you are not alone. My younger sister who has lyme doesn't have the *standard arthritis* she is mostly neuro. I know the anxiety, and all the other symptoms can be scary, so hang in there.
It does get better with treatment, I am a lot better now, and I had many of the same symptoms you are describing.
Hope you feel better soon.

I too have no arthritis. I have had head pressure and headaches for the last 2 weeks or so. I also had nausea for the last few days.
I have had the head pressure before but this time its a little different. It is mostly in the left temple area.
I hope you get some answers sson. That seems to be what I am always searching for and the not knowing causes anxiety.......Good luck

Oh, I had docs tells me I was starting arthritis when I had the same symptoms. It was lyme but they got it wrong.
Really easy for them to blame arth. when they have no clue and us patients are supposed to just take what they say as gospel.
My worst initial symptoms years ago were what I called shin splints like feelings to the docs.......turns out now everybody knows about restless leg syndrome.
Docs never told me I had this and even looked like I was stupid or nuts when I described the creepy crawly leg pains that were torturing me.
Oh but WOW! Now the pharma companies are advertising a cure for this on TV.
I trust no one anymore......I hate the medical system we have to live with.
I have this again now, as well as lower back pain, knee pain, ankle pain and neck/shoulder pain. My fatigue is off of the charts again too.
There is no cure I keep getting told. I guess again, as a doctor told me years ago, that it's due to being a woman of "MY AGE".
Your description of symptoms sounds very familar to me.
I have some joint pain, but not enough to take anything. No joint swelling.... I look very normal and healthy.
I used to have what I call a 'bobble head'.
It was an off and on thing.... kind of like my head contents would continue to 'slosh' after my body stopped moving.
Weird huh? It was not a true spinning..... Kind of a lack of balance that no one could see.... but I could feel.
The most consistant thing about lyme is that it is inconsistant.
There is a huge list of symptoms for lyme and I don't think anyone has them all.
Few people even have most of the symptoms. That is one of the reasons that it is so hard to diagnose.
Also, all the symptoms could be attributed to something else, so that always puts doubt in patients and doctors minds.
But lyme can cause all these problems.
It can be a long hard road... but worth it. My bobble head is gone, so is the ringing in my head. I would have to say I am 80% better... and still being treated. I am on month 12.

A few quick notes:
As far as I am concerned the answert is yes, it can be lyme... here's why I say this.
You metion on and off- Is it a regular VERY regular pattern that repeats. If so this is a clasical sign of lyme, or more specifically a boreolis infection of some sort.
There are many variants of Lyme- They in fact are borreolis infections of one desciption or another. All related but not the same. Some have a higher incidence of joint involvement than others (ie US and european strains as an example). Fortunately the treatment approach is basically the same.
The spinning is likley indicative of a central vestibular problem (but not always so it should be checked out). Often in Lyme they cannot find a problem with the workings of the ears, in which case they call it a "central" problem as it has to do with the brain.
Another thing to keep in mind is that if a person has insecte transmitted Lyme, there is a very good chance that there is also another infection that has also been transmitted so the treating Dr. has to keep this in mind.
hope that helps in some small way.

I have not been well for most of my life. I just recently found out it has been Lyme all that time (about 50 years). My major problems are neuro and heart.
I have escaped the arthritis. I'm not sure of the statistics but a certain percent of Lyme patients do not get arthritis. It may have to do with genetics and whether you are predisposed to it or not.
I do have creaky knees and neck and my pain issues are mainly muscular. And the dizziness and spaced out feeling.
So, what you are talking about are typical symptoms for neuro problems and if you are Lyme positive it is probably neuroborreliosis (sp).

There is arthralgia which is just joint pain without swelling and then there is arthritis. Arthritis can occur without swelling as well. Lyme can cause both arthralgia and arthritis.

There are over 50 strains of Bb.
The European strains USED to cause mainly neuro symptoms.
Very likely that the various symptoms could (someday) be linked to what particular strain one happens to acquire.
