This came up in another post, and bears repeating.

For those with poor adrenal functioning, who have difficulty tolerating stimulants, you may have bad reactions to epinephrine in novacaine injections at the dentist.

Epinephrine is the sme as adrenaline - the stress hormone that gives us the fight or flight response. It can give some people the shakes, and make it difficult for the dentist to finish the work, besides causing a bit of trauma for the patient.

You can ask your dentist for novacaine without epinephrine.

Gosh, how interesting you bring that up!! I had a dental appt yesterday, and my heart felt like I was running a marathon. They told me it had epinephrine in it and that was the first time I'd heard that.

Sheesh, were you sitting behind me yesterday?

I had several scarey dental experiences while trying to get my amalgams out.

The dentist told me I had fear issues about getting worked on, but the heart of the problem was that I was getting fear injections. I ended up with dentist phobia until I figured out the real cause of my reactions.

I once spent an entire afternoon in a dentist's chair with my mouth propped open, a half drilled root canal, and an violent case of the shakes.

I ended up finishing the root canal without anesthetics so I could pick up my daughter from preschool before they closed for the night. I met angels that day.

I'm one of those people with particularly shot adrenals, but I'm sure that's not a lyme symptom for everybody. For those who do have this, I hope I can help at least one person avoid such a situation, or make sense of one they have had.

I always ask for Procaine, Lidocaine, or whatever it is they use, with out Epinephrin. I have for as long as I can remember. It always made me feel terrible.

The weird thing is a dentist asked me if he could try it a few years ago and I let him. He watched me very carefully.

It did not make me hyper but did as I remembered... made me waaaay to stoned to drive home. Seems like a paradoxical reaction?

The other good thing is without the Epi it's much shorter acting and doesn't keep you numb for 6 hours.

Bejoy! I've been thinking about you. How'd your weekend go with company? I didn't realize you were back on and posting. I had this fantasy that your friend told you to go back to bed while she stayed and ran the show for a week.

Glad I read this post after I had my broken tooth repaired last week. The whole experience exhausted me. I already have heart issues so I don't think he uses the epistuff on me.

My LLMD is totally against amalgem (sp), and I have quite a mouthful.
She told me there is a simpler test for mercury poisoning coming out in a couple of months.

Hope you had a fun visit.

Carol

Wow, thanks for that info.

I had the dizzy, toxic reaction last time I had dental work. Now I know to ask. THANK YOU!
