I just started on diflucan over the holidays. Seven days after I started I had my first liver enzyme test. Not good news!

ALT 210 reference range less than 36
AST 77 reference range less than 36
LD 155 reference range less than 220

My Canadian GP has agreed to let me continue taking it, but if liver enzymes don't come down or go up, he won't fill any more prescriptions. I see my LLMD at the end of this month.

Any comments? I am inclined to think that the elevated results are based on the initial die off of mold/fungus (severe problem for me) and heavy metals. I have since taken dmsa for the heavy metals and actually don't feel too bad, all things considered.

My liver enzymes were all fine a month ago and totally fine while on ketec for 6 months. This summer I felt like my liver was going to burst and actually walked around holding onto my right side and yet the enzymes were normal. Go figure!

Any comments, especially on the specific enzyme tests are appreciated.

Diana

Hi Diana

It is real important to drink Lots of
tea or water

2 to 3 gallons a day-
it is the best thing you can do--

I took Extria large doses of ABX over
extended periods of time --

My liver has had no damage--

My liver tests look like I dont
even take ABX at all --

You have to wash the bad stuff out--Jay--

Milk thistle is an herb that helps with liver detox and liver health. Many people feel it helped stabilize their liver enzymes.

Diana,
If it were me I would keep checking the liver enzymes frequently to make sure they aren;t continuing to rise.

Diflucan is hard on the liver and you want to make sure you aren't going to cause damage down the road.

Can you have them checked again next week? and maybe the week after?

Be careful, ok?

trueblue thanks for your concern-the funny thing is I felt soooo much worse than I do right now and since I'm not turning yellow-I don't know what to look for. Other than the piece of paper that says that my enzymes are highly elevated, I would never have guessed.

I do the lemon drink and take activated charcoal which I will increase for a while.

Next liver test is in about 3 weeks.

Forgot to mention that my GP looked in his medical book which says only 1-2% of people taking diflucan have elevated liver enzymes and typically these are people that start the drug with higher than normal values.

At some point a few years into treatment a new doc decided I needed to do mega doses of Zith and Suprax. (Both ABX I had taken together and alone with no problem.)

The huge doses made me really ill and I stopped after 2 months. Bloodwrok was fine except I tested positive for Babs. A month later I was still too tired to get out of bed.

More blood was taken and then my LFTs were 900 and 1350.

I'm talking fatigue worse than you can possibly imagine and inability to stay awake for very long. I was not jaundiced.

I was hospitalized and diagnosed with Hep C. My LFTs have never gone so high again. It was a bizarre acute attack triggered by the high dose ABX or that they stirred up the Babs. I don't know.

I would think the tests in 3 weeks will give you a good idea whether to continue or not. I told the above story in case you find yourself with that type of fatigue. You would know to have the test sooner.

I'd think your theory about recent die-off is quite possible.
I was pulled off Ketek after 2 months and my enzymes rose more. They were similar to yours now(slightly higer AST). It turned out that my gallbladder was bad and the doc thinks that rose the LFTs. Needless to say no one's gonna give me Ketek again. Too bad, I liked Ketek.

I hope everything works out fine.
