I have a terrible nose burn coz of taking short walks WITH A HAT in the sunshine. I am on doxy. I would like to know if sunblock would help AT ALL to keep my poor nose from turning any more red???

I burned right through sunblock with Doxy - I'm very fair skinned. But my dad, who has more olive skin, burned through sunblock, too, on Doxy.

While on Doxy, I had to wear sunblock, hat, gloves (especially while driving, I got terrible burns on my knuckles), buy clothing with SPF built in from SunPrecautions (I think that's the name) catalog, and basically not walk until very late in the day.

Even once I went off Doxy, it took awhile for my burns to go away.

You cannot be too careful while on Doxy in terms of any sun exposure.

Yes Jill you are RIGHT!! I have forever sensitized the tops of my hands--I even wear little white gloves with the finger ends cut off while surfing! I was on doxy in 2001 in MAINE and it was cold but sunny and didnt know my hands would get soooo burned. Took months to recover from it--it was so painful. My fingernails even got messed up.

Thanks for your input!!!
hope you are having a nice day

Trails ~

Just a thought...
Have you tried anything with Zinc in it? SPF means nothing, see if a sunblock with Zinc is works better.

You can have lifeguard nose.

It may prevent sunburn slightly. Buy something really strong. Talk to a pharmacist buy sunblock no 100 or the strongest you can get.

But still cloth, hat, shade are the best protection, not creams.

Yes--I have tried zinc with very limited results. It is better than sunblock, but still get burned thru it.

I have decided to take a light scarf that I can wrap around my face. I will be in the city for surgeon appointments for the next few days. I would look pretty funny walking around the city with zinc on my nose. But then again it is San Fran and right now I look like RUDOLF!

Thanks truey and arineli!

Hi Trails--

Blue Lizzard --sun block is supposed to help-

Regular sun blocks do not help and seem
to make it worse--

Make Sure NOT to eat Any Citrus--
or Cranberries--even small amounts-

Citrus make the -Photo Toxic- Much Worse--

I took Doxi for 3 yrs--
I had Super Bad Photo Toxic reaction--

All Light burned my skin -- Blisters --
Even Light from my computer monitor
burned my skin---

Going out side in day light was
out of the question --

I researched Photo Toxic and found info
that Citrus-Doxi has this Bad reaction--

Even Tiny amounts- spoon full--

Cut out citrus from my diet and I
am good now-

I have written alot about it-
search on me 2 yrs ago--Jay--

Somehow the zinc ointment (which I believe they make in several colors) would look better than a little nose shade(I'm picturing an awning type thing) tied to your face.

I'm sorry about the rudolf, ouchie nose but the image I have of you with a hat and nose shade is cracking me up. *hangs head in shame* [lol]

I do hope you find a workable solution.

I used Coppertone sunscreen (50 SPF) with avobenzone EVERY day on all exposed skin while I took Doxy. Never got a burn.

Been on doxy for 7 years when I lived in FL> never did find anything that didn't burn me but but you can buy zinc whole skin body block & try to stay covered up & in the shade.

hope this helps
