My mom takes 0.1 mg once a day in the morning.

She would like to stop taking synthroid all together.

Any tips/experiences?
Will there be withdrawal symptoms?
Goiter issues?

Thanks guys.

She should not stop taking Synthroid unless by her doctor's guidance.

Fatigue can set in when you withdraw the meds. It can be subtle. After the first week, she would likely feel sluggish unless her thyroid is functioning and can rebound a little.

I run 125 mcg of Synthroid along with Cytomel. If your mom is on 100 mcgs, she must have some need for the med.

Is she planning on switching thyroid meds?

If she's going to do cold turkey, it would probably be good to run the blood work consistently to see if she's plunging into the abyss.

Other than that, you have a good handle on the nutritional aspects.

I've read that Eleuthero supports the thyroid. Maybe it was in Buhner's book--too lazy to check now.

(As you predicted, canefan, it has helped my energy level a lot so far.)

I've been on synthroid for years, so am going to watch how I feel. If I start feeling hyper, I'll take that as a sign that the Eleuthero is helping the thyroid.

And I'll get in for a TSH test.

Marz,

That's awesome! Congrats.

That's my plan with her too.

Start her on eluetherococcus (conservative dosage) and slowly wean her off of synthroid.

She wants to start cutting the tablets in half and slowly wean off.
