So, if you have had lyme disease for say 9 years or so and just now found out about it, what kind of prognosis is there for you? Is the lyme still treatable, but I am doomed to carry the bacteria around me forever? Is lyme potentially completely curable if discovered early? I have had strange visual symptoms for 9 years, but only within the last 6 months or so have I started getting some non-visual symptoms.

It can definitely be put in remission. I would say there is disagreement whether it can be completely cured or not.
But in remission, you can be pretty darn normal again. Or so I hope.
It's not a quick fix though. It could take a few years of antibiotic treatment to get there.
