I've recently tried to take a break from doctors and trying to figure this thing out because it's so exhausting and I needed a break.

I don't know if I thought that just because I accepted it I'd be okay and now I'm disappointed that I'm not or what... but over the past couple of weeks I have new symptoms and I just feel like I'm at the end of my rope!

The first is an excruciating pain, but not stabbing or shooting or burning etc., a whole new flavor that I'm not quite sure how to explain.

It feels as if something is trying to push out of my neck from the center of my trachea with a nickel- to dime-sized dull-pointed object. It makes it hard to breath, swallow, think, etc.

The second began 4 days ago when the inner part of my bottom lip felt like I had scraped it or something. Now my bottom lip is mildly swollen and the inside of it hurts and there are two large flat canker sore-like lesions.

Has anybody else had either of these symptoms or any idea about what may be causing them?

And how do you deal with it when new symptoms pop up? All I can think is that I just have to accept it as it comes... kind of hard to do!

Finally, I can't sleep because of anxiety and heart palpitation feelings. This is night 2 of this, and I need to get some sleep!! Does anyone have tricks for getting some sleep when this happens?

Kate,

Have you had your Thyroid checked? Swallowing was always a symptom for me that it was low. Or when I missed a few doses of my thyroid meds this symptom would come back. Could be a possiblity...

OR the shortness of breath & heart palps could be a Babesia sypmtom. And you may a combination of both. Sometimes we have so many things going on at once its hard to tell whats what.

I also had alot of "new" symptoms in the beginning of my treatment. And it was very difficult, but I did get used to it. But after awhile alot of symptom started fading away.

As for sleeping, Melatonin may help. If you don't want to go the prescription route.

And the more I go over what you have said it makes me think BABS!

The only reason I say this, is because, I have a few family members with babs and some without. The ones with Babs have ..... Sleep problems, breathing problems, heart problems & palputations, plus more anxiety.

Thanks Lisi! I have had my thyroid checked and discovered I'm making 2 kinds of antibodies against my thyroid, but my old doc didn't seem to think this was a problem (part of the reason I'm seeing someone new at the end of Feb.)

Is there pain involved with the choking sensation/problem swallowing if it's thyroid related? I wasn't sure about that. For me the pain is what causes these problems.

I was tested for Babs and it came back negative. Is this one that hides like Lyme can, or would that have certainly shown up?

Could the throat pain be an ulcer/sore like the ones in your mouth? That could be caused by yeast or a virus.

Lyme treatment can activate latant viruses. Some LLMDs put patients on antivirals to prevent that. Early in treatment, I ran out of my acyclovir for a weak and developed a very bad sore in the back of my throat. Went away when I went back on the acyclovir.

What about GERD? acid reflux?

Seems there's some connection between Lyme and celiac/gluten sensitivity. There also seems to be a connection between celiac and canker sores and also many, many digestive issues.

Have you tried gluten free?

I believe that Babs doesn't necessarily show up on tests.

I used high dose Artemesia for two weeks, and had improvement, but also herxed temporarily and released toxins that I'm not sure I unloaded.

We do need good help with these issues.

Hi Kate,

Here is a symptom list for Babesia: Note the bottom portion where it talks about testing.

20. What signs and symptoms would lead a doctor to suspect a Babesia infection in a patient? How many strains of Babesiosis have been identified and how many are commonly tested for in commercial labs?

The following signs/symptoms may be present in those infected with Babesiosis:

Fatigue*
Arthralgias* (aching joints)
Myalgia* (muscle pain)
Drenching sweats*
Headaches*
Emotional lability*
Depression*
Dark urine*
Splenomegaly* (enlarged spleen)
Dizziness*
Nausea and vomiting*
Cough*
Dyspnea* (difficulty breathing)
Fever*
Chills*
Hepatosplenomegaly* (enlarged liver)
Jaundice*
Malaise*
Shortness of breath*
Bleeding tendencies,
bruising* Thrombocytopenia* (low platelets in the blood)
Hemoglobinuria* (red cell breakdown, with release of hemoglobin in the urine)
Hyperesthesia* (over sensitivity to touch)
Pulmonary edema* (fluid accumulation, swelling in the lungs)
Encephalopathy* (alters brain function)
Low to normal range leukocyte counts*
Possible elevated levels of dehydrogenase, bilirubin,
transaminase*
Anorexia*

Approximately 25%- 66% of Babesia patients are known to be co-infected with Lyme disease. These symptoms may continue for long periods of time, decrease, then return. A low Babesiosis titer (IgG) often indicates a chronic infection.

An acute or current infection may show a higher reading on the IgM test initially. There are over 100 species of Babesia in the United States but only ONE or TWO species are currently checked by commercial labs.

I take a hot epsom salt soak for as long as i can. Get your favorite blanket and pillow and try to see yourself somewhere that you love. Hope things improve. Sweet sleep
